Let's Play Monmusu Quest: Paradox [part 2] - 15: The School of Nope

<- Previous: Yamata no Orochi Caves

We’re back on the main quest line.  The objective is to investigate the Tartarus region close to the disappeared village of Esta.  But we can’t enter there just yet.  We need a permit from Queen Noah and before she gives us that she’d like us to first investigate her definitely-not-untrustworthy-in-the-slightest advisor, Mephisto.

Mephisto’s School of Magic can be found just north of Grand Noah here:

If you scouted out this region before entering Grand Noah, the school will have been locked.  But now we have the key given to us by Queen Noah.  So let’s go and see what nefarious activities Mephisto is up to.

Oh.  Hi schoolgirls.

Seems like a normal school...

(Who are really monster girl mature students of a legal age.  We don’t want to get into any trouble here.)

I don’t suppose you can tell us where to find your headmistre—

...nope.

Ah.

Welcome... to the School of Nope.

My notes have “get details of magical bug girls’ Bad Ends to add later.”

Really.  I mean, really.  Do you really want more of this:

Nope

Nope nope nope nope nope nope come-back-Delphinus-all-is-forgiven nopity nope.

At least on the second floor we have some magical elves, succubi and pixie girls that are little less nopey.

Not all students are nope

Their Bad End is a group reverse gangbang, because we’re in one of those magical porno schools where 25-year-old porn actresses cosplay as school girls and bang the shit out of the janitor.

Did you have to bring your friends, succubus?

(it’s pixels, offendatrons.  Pixels.  The elf girl is probably over 1,000 years old anyway.)

Most of the student NPCs are doing magical studenty things.  There is a battlefucker in the room furthest over to the left.  Her name is Rufa and she likes using toys.

This seems - dare-I-say-it - ordinary compared to everything else in the school

She also has the correct number of limbs and no insect appendages burst out of her while doing the deed.  This counts as unexpected in this place.

Of more surprise is the presence of Alma Elma in a schoolgirl costume on the other side of the first floor.  Yes, you did hear that correctly – Alma Elma in a schoolgirl costume.

Alma Elma, wiping out the audience one fantasy at a time

She’s in disguise and also here to find out what’s going on with Mephisto.

Unsurprisingly, there are goings on with Mephisto.  She can be found in her office in the middle of the second floor.  She’s also not alone.  With her is the milfiest (and therefore sexiest) shikibus, Lilith.

Mephisto working with the Bad Guys, who'd have thunk it

So, Mephisto is working with the three succubus sisters.  After noticing us, Lilith can’t let us leave.  We’re going to have to wait a little longer for that Lilith fight, though, as Alma Elma shows up and both her and Lilith are spirited off for an epic battle elsewhere.

That still leaves Mephisto, and she promptly transforms into a giant demon lamia for the boss fight.

Headmistress of Nope

Mephisto’s attacks are mostly magical in nature.  I’m foolishly trying to level all the major characters up through the various jobs and don’t really have anything resembling an optimal party configuration.  The fight is pretty much Luka (still over-levelled because you can never remove him from the party) solo-spamming Demon Slicer over and over while the rest of the party tries to stay alive with phoenix feathers and priest magic.

Also, you probably don’t want to lose to Mephisto.  Her Bad End is another lamia unbirth scene, but with added cactus-spine fangs.

It's all gone nope

Why?

Oh right, School of Goddamn Nope.

On the plus side, you could probably stream that segment on Youtube and it wouldn’t need to censor anything other than the boobies.

(If I remember right, there is an actual let’s play series of the original Monster Girl Quest.  They made use of a lot of meme-y and similar comedy cut outs to mask all the naughty bits.)

Mephisto fesses up after we beat her.  She is still working for Alice 15th rather than the ancient (likely dimension-hopping) succubus trio.  It just so happens that their interests are in alignment here.  She also reveals that Alice 15th, her boss, is the one pulling the strings behind Grangold and manipulating them into waging war on everyone.

We take her back to make the same confession to Queen Noah.

Meanwhile, Alma Elma and Lilith are still fighting.  It looks pretty epic.  Go Alma Elma!  (But not too hard.  We wouldn’t mind... ahem... fighting Lilith later.)

Alma Elma and Lilith duking it out in an epic battle

Queen Noah hears Mephisto’s confession in her throne room, but the weird part about it is that, despite working for Alice 15th, Mephisto was totally sincere in her role as advisor.  Alice 15th ordered her to help Grand Noah as much as she could, and she’s happy to continue doing this even if that means going against Grangold, who appear to also be following the orders of Alice 15th.

The enemy of my enemy of my friend is also my friend of my enemy of my... I give up.

The net result is nothing really changes.  Queen Noah is happy to continue using Mephisto as advisor as she’s pretty damn good at it and seems willing to give her best for Grand Noah, even if her reasons for giving her best for Grand Noah were because she was ordered to do so by the current enemy of Grand Noah, and... no, it’s gotten too complicated again.

Queen Noah also points out it’s probably better to keep Mephisto close anyway, so they can see better what she’s up to.

The Queen is – finally – satisfied we’ve proven our worth.  She gives us a permit to join the investigative team at Esta and we can—

Mephisto asks if we can investigate Plansect Village.  A civil war has broken out between the plants and insects and the region is in unrest.  The village lies on the border and is therefore of strategic importance to Grand Noah.

Oh, for fuck’s sake.  We’re never going to get to see this next Tartarus region.

-> Next: Plansect Village.

Let's Play Monmusu Quest: Paradox [part 2] - 14: Yamata no Orochi Caves

<- Previous: Yamatai Village

Working out the blogpost breaks for the Yamatai Village quests is a bit awkward for reasons that will become apparent.  I did think about giving the village and shrines separate posts, but there isn’t enough happening in Yamatai Village on its own and the village + shrines is too big for a single post.  And then there’s that back-and-forth into the Yamata no Orochi Caves (which I think is the right name for this location).

Anyway, we’ve satisfied the Cat and Fox shrine quests.  Now it’s time for the Raccoon Shrine quest, which involves going into the Yamata no Orochi caves to find the Raccoon God.

And not fight Yamata no Orochi.  Alice is absolutely insistent on this.  She tells us Yamata no Orochi is a very powerful demon.  I think the game is trying to subtly hint that Yamata no Orochi is a challenge boss along similar lines to Sphinx in part 1 (and Leviathan earlier).

Paradox makes use of the MGQ Chapter 3 Yamatai monster girls to populate the caves.  This means appearances for the Miko Lamia and Kejourou.  There is one new monster girl – a Miko Arachne.

Dancing dancing spiders

She has a very annoying curse dance.  If you’re relying on magic attacks for damage, make sure to have Nullify Silence equipped, or you might end up like this:

She's a rare spider girl. She doesn't eat Luka afterwards.

To find the raccoon tanuki girl*, take the right fork on entering and walk into the big cavern behind the waterfall.

*Pedantic aside warning.  I wrote it as machine translated, but raccoon is not strictly accurate.  Japan doesn’t have racoons, it has raccoon dogs (tanuki), which while sharing a superficial resemblance to America’s lovable (unless you’re a pet owner) trash pandas, are a completely different animal.  They look like someone spliced a raccoon and badger together, and threw in a bit of fox for good measure.

Tanuki girl is cowering over on the left.

Quest objective for shrine #3

She asks not to be eaten.

Alice never passes up an opportunity to bully (sort of) fox girls

After some teasing from Alice about tanuki pots, we’re returned to the Tanuki Shrine.  That’s shrine #3 solved.

Oddly, you don’t seem to be able to recruit tanuki girl.  I tried talking to her afterwards without much luck, so I don’t know if she can be recruited.  Maybe she’s exclusive to players on the Ilias route?  Maybe you’re supposed to recruit her later?

I don’t know to be honest.  If she is recruitable and you know how, post in the comments below (but please avoid spoilers if it involves waiting for a later event to unlock her).

Last shrine is the snake shrine, and I’m guessing this is where we’re going to have to do some fighty stuff.  The snake shrine is in revolt, and it’s as suspected.  The good white shirohebi sister confirms on the bridge—her more rebellious twin has been corrupted by Black Alice and is raising an army.

Was raising an army.

While speaking to Good Shirohebi there’s a loud crash from the main shrine building behind her.  On entering it we find a lot of bashed up monster girls.  Nobody is dead, but they aren’t in any state to fight.  On the second floor we find the reason for all this, and it’s not much of a surprise.  Neris (Alice 17th) has been beating up all the monster girl queens Black Alice recruited and it’s Evil Shirohebi’s turn.

Neris getting involved again
Or would be Evil Shirohebi’s turn.  For some reason we picked the wrong time to show up as Neris scarpers leaving us to fight Evil Shirohebi instead.

Boss fight!

Now don’t get tempted there Luka-clone.

They're fighting... I think
Shirohebi is a lamia, so blast her with ice magic effects and all will be fine.  This is a repeat boss fight from the original series, which might also explain why Neris ran off.  “Classic” Luka fought Evil Shirohebi at some point in his adventures so it might as well be here, or something like that.  I still don’t know what’s going on.

That’s enough to settle the issues of the 4th and final shrine.  If you go back to the village headman he’ll reward you with the Book of Eastern Secrets.  This unlocks the Samurai, Taoist and Ninja jobs.

It also triggers the beginning of a side quest.  Outside the main hut you’ll find a group of four young men.

You're going to have to find these four idiots at some point
They have a plan to see the world and... get fucked, basically.  The side quest is to find them after they’ve dispersed.  Three can be found right now, but the fourth buggered off to Succubus Village, which we haven’t reached yet.  I’ll come back to this side quest when we reach that location.

We’re still not done with Yamatai.  Evil Shirohebi can be recruited if you talk to her in the snake shrine.

Her good sister has to stay around and run things, but Evil Shirohebi is available (probably in more ways than one).  But first she requires we fetch her a Beckoning Cat item from the Yamata no Orochi caves.

This had me stumped for a while.  If you ask around the NPCs they’ll tell you rumours of a secret treasure cave in the Yamata no Orochi caves.  I didn’t find it on the first lookthrough and so assumed it was something that was unlocked later, maybe when your party has levelled up enough to defeat Yamata no Orochi.

This isn’t the case.  Enter the caves and this time take the left fork.  This leads to another waterfall area with chests.  While they might look unreachable, the first party member can hop across the short gaps.  It’s a variation on the classic top-down JRPG ice puzzles.  The Beckoning Cat isn’t here (the far chest is another boxed girl).

The thing I missed was this damn rope here.

Completely missed this rope the first time around
Climb down it and then walk to the right to enter the secret treasure area.

Walk through the waterfall to the right of the sign...
...to find the secret treasure cave
The Beckoning Cat can be found in here as well as a bunch of other treasure.  Now you can go back and recruit Evil Shirohebi.

And that’s all for Yamatai Village.  With both Caesar’s and Arthur’s side quests resolved, it’s time to hop back onto the main quest line and check out Mephisto’s school of magic for Queen Noah.

Wait, what about Yamata no Orochi?

Well you can find her here, in the cave north of where you find Tanuki Girl.

Warning: Yamata no Orochi, do not approach
But I wouldn’t recommend fighting her unless you have a serious fetish for tongues and licking that you absolutely have to satisfy right now.

Okay, okay.  But don’t say I didn’t warn you.

It's okay Luka.  She'll let you go in a year.

Let's Play Monmusu Quest: Paradox [part 2] - 13: Yamatai Village

<- The Road to Yamatai

We’ve arrived at Yamatai Village.  It’s time to enter walkthrough mode, and believe me, we’re going to need it here as I imagine this place was pretty damn confusing for anyone trying to play without translation.

Yamatai Village is pretty big.  These settlements seem to get bigger and bigger no matter how small and rustic they look on the map.  In the original series the problem here involved a sacrifice to Yamata no Orochi.  This time around the problem seems to be unrest around the sacred shrines.  There are four of them – Cat, Raccoon, Fox and Snake.

Before then there’s the usual bout of information gathering and stealing things out of pots.

The mysterious mountain leads to the elf village Yamatai has some kind of deal with.  It’s not possible to enter right now as it’s protected by a magic force.

The most important quest item we need to pick up here is the Eastern Book of Secrets.  That unlocks the Ninja, Samurai and Taoist jobs.  There are various other NPCs looking for that information.  Kappas are sumo wrestling with the young men, who don’t seem to be trying to win too hard.  There are more nods to Japanese folklore with a Yuki-onna that can only stay married so long as her husband doesn’t realise she’s a Yuki-onna (he seems oblivious enough that she doesn’t have anything to worry about).

Yamata no Orochi is still about and still requires a yearly sacrifice.  There aren’t any shortage of volunteers for this in Paradox world as they’ve figured out sacrifice means being licked to a state of extreme erotic bliss for a year and then coming back home.  Alice mentions Yamata no Orochi is very old and very tough, so I’m guessing she’s an optional boss along similar lines to Sphinx.

There are not one but two battlefuckers in Yamatai – Yayoi...

Likes swords

...and Satsuki.

Likes nipples
Unlike most of the other battlefuckers, they actually have proper H-scenes rather than random close-ups of whatever body part we happen to be rubbing our dingaling against at that particular moment.

As for actual plot, first we need to find and talk to the village headman.  He can be found in the main hut here:

Village head's hut

This is the NPC you need to talk to
He will then explain the problem with the shrines.  The snakes have gone militant and are building an army to conquer the village.  Alice thinks it’s the work of the other Shirohebi sister.  That sounds like it’s going to be a fight against a returning boss from the 3rd chapter of the original series.  The racoon god has gone missing.  They think this has put the fox god in a funk as she won’t talk to anyone.  The cat shrine has the opposite problem – so many cats they can’t work out who the real cat god is.

So there are our missions.  Time to head to the shrines.  This is a separate location reached by following the road north through the village and walking onto the next screen.

The base of the hill is fairly touristy.  The shop here sells various treats.  Ilias is here with her pitiful party and she and Alice bicker as usual.  The shrines are reached by walking up the steps by the north exit.  Thankfully there are shrine maiden NPCs located at each shrine and at the base of the mountain to shortcut walking up or down all those steps.

The first shrine is the cat shrine.  In the warehouse next to it you can recruit the last of the unfortunate quartet if you have one of them in your party when you talk to the Unfortunate Nekomata.  She(?) will also give you an item that unlocks the Nekomata race for beast girls.

A cat girl.  Nya nya.
The cat shrine problem is fairly easy to resolve.  Talk to the shrine maiden.  Then talk to each of the cats to find out which one is the cat god (it’s not, as I thought, the sleeping cat girl).  Then go back to the shrine maiden.  By this point you will have lost which cat girl it is, but it won’t matter because the shrine maiden wisely decides to go “fuck it” and pick any random cat girl to be cat god.  It’s not like anyone will notice any difference.

(although it might have been fun if the game randomly slipped a level 60 nekomata in as one of the encounters outside the village)

It was this one in my playthrough
Cat shrine done, time to move onto the Fox shrine.

I put the adorable kitsune pair, Kamuro and Kitsu, in my party to see if they had any additional dialogue when talking with the NPCs.  Other than cooing at the cute normal foxes wandering around outside they don’t.  Two new kitsune (which I imagine we’ll fight later at some point) are guarding the gate, but we’re allowed entry for now.

Nero is here and is getting mobbed by foxes.  I don’t know why to be honest.  Machine translation got a little lost here.  Fox tails decorating his clothing that the other foxes don’t like?  Answers below if you know, please.

Not really sure what the foxes are doing with Nero
I really shouldn’t be surprised by the identity of the fox god.  Who else is it going to be but Tamamo, and the real deal this time rather than an illusion.

Unhappy Tamamo
She is depressed about something.  I can’t tell what as Tamamo has always been a nightmare for machine translation.  I think it’s because she’s written to speak with an old-fashioned Japanese accent.  From what I can work out, the source of Tamamo’s unhappiness is Alice’s mother.  I don’t think Tamamo agrees with some of the orders she’s been given.  Whatever it is, she doesn’t want to speak with the player further.

However, this does count as resolving the problems with the Fox shrine.  Onto the Raccoon shrine.

Just outside the raccoon shrine is a group of rat girls.  They seem to be plotting some kind of coup over the fact they don’t have a shrine of their own, but I think they’re just background NPCs.

There’s nobody at the Raccoon shrine other than a crying Kitsune.  Talk to her and you find out she’s crying because she challenged the Raccoon God to go to the Yamata no Orochi caves and she never came back.

So it’s a rescue mission, and an excuse to visit those caves.

So off we go... next post.

(I was originally going to put all the shrine stuff here, but we’re already over 1,000 words.)

Let's Play Monmusu Quest: Paradox [part 2] - 12: The Road to Yamatai

<- Previous: Minotaurs’ Labyrinth

With Caesar’s quest complete, it’s time to head off to Yamatai Village to complete Arthur’s Quest.  First we have to get there.

The road from Finoa to Grand Noah splits in two at a signpost.  The right fork leads to a cave entrance.  On the other side of those tunnels is Yamatai.

These cave systems seem to get windier and more maze-like each time.  The route to Yamatai also has some cave rooms with treasure chests inside.  Look for the cave entrances that look like large cracks.

In the original series, the route to Yamatai was over some snow-covered mountains, where Luka was attacked by a Yuka-Onna snow spirit.  She can now be found in the tunnels to Yamatai, along with the ninja and samurai elves of the original series.

Kunoichi in Torotoro Resistance’s universe are non-supernatural humans or elves that have mastered ancient arts of pleasure to almost succubus levels.  She’ll kill you, but you’ll enjoy every minute of it.

The deadliest of ninja techniques...

The samurai has a filthy mind and loves a bit of tight anal, with the emphasis being on tight.

Samurai elves are very dirty girls

They were all present in the original series, so nothing new here.

What is new is the Nure-onna.

It's a lamia.  Is she like Miia from Monster Musume?

She’s a lamia type and can also be found in the caves on the way to the Minotaur Labyrinth.  She also knows a few filthy little tricks with her snakes, but be warned, she’s a man-eater.

I think this bit of 69 went wrong somewhere...

Literally.

No, I don't think she's like Miia from Monster Musume.  Helllpppp!

Lamia vaginas – just a little bit too flexible.  Don’t show her any mercy next time, Luka.

The nekomata we’ve been seeing as various NPCs throughout the game also finally show up as encounters in the woods and fields surrounding the village.

Yamatai seems to be based on Ye Olde Japanese fantasy, so most of the monsters in this area are sexy versions of traditional Youkai.  The Akaname, or long-tongue women, return from the original series.  New additions are the Futakuchi, or two-mouth girl...

Um, you appear to have something on the back of your head

...and Kappas.

Kappas, photobombed by a random cat girl

Kappas really like cucumbers for... reasons that are probably best not to ask.

Kappas also like sumo, including some holds that don’t seem legal or fair.

Foul hold!  Foul hold!

Her Bad End is to stick her fingers in our ass, rummage around until she finds our ‘ejaculation button’ and then press it until empty (and unconscious).  Pretty sure that move is definitely not legal in sumo.  It could be worse.  At least she’s not using that cucumber she’s always carrying around.

Kappa also has another scene you can request back at the castle.  It also involves prostate massage (she really likes sticking her fingers in our ass for some reason), but with sex as well.  I think.  This is another one of those pieces of art where I’m not entirely sure which way round Luka actually is.

Two-mouth women are spirits of women that were excessively greedy or gluttonous in their lives and are cursed to return with an insatiably hungry mouth in the back of their heads, if I remember my Japanese folklore correctly.  The futakuchi girls in Monmusu Quest: Paradox also have that perpetual hunger.  Every item drop is a food item.

Despite their uncontrollable hunger, vore is surprisingly absent from their Bad Ends.  Lose to one out in the woods and she’ll tie you up with her hair before letting that mouth on the back of her head suck out every drop of semen.

It's sort of a blow job... I guess...

I’m not sure what to make of it other than thinking there’s probably a really good horror story for Edward Lee somewhere.  Rednecks capture a mysterious Japanese girl to give her a header.  Messy castration ensues.  Fuck it, I’ll write it myself.  Except it will probably have to be British chavs.  I usually fuck up when I attempt to write in an ‘American’ voice (oh H-space, why did I have the US government discover you first).

Futakuchi also has a couple of other request scenes – a more conventional blowjob, frottage between her buttocks, and the same scene with full vaginal intercourse.  She’s also endearingly apologetic when she loses control of her second mouth and sucks out so much Luka is knocked out for a day.

But that’s enough fraternising with the locals.  The destination is Yamatai Village, which can be found here:

Yamatai Village

North of Yamatai is a white mountain and another visit-able location.  That leads to the elf village, but it’s impossible to reach at the moment as you’ll get teleported back to the start after taking a few steps.

East of Yamatai Village is another cave system.  I’m guessing that’s where Yamata-no-Orochi is hanging out.  We’ll check that dungeon out later.

Before then, it’s time to see what has Yamatai Village in uproar.
