Let's Play DramaraQuest V! part 11

This is a continuation of my playthrough of the DramaraQuest V hentai parody JRPG of Dragon Quest 5.  The first part is here.

After saving the fairy world from eternal winter it’s back to the basement of the inn and Pops shows up to drag our ass off to the next location.  We get there through a tunnel under a river that was closed off earlier and the destination is a big royal palace.  Pops is famous and we’re ushered right into the presence of the king.  While they’re chatting we’re told to bugger off and find Prince Henry, whoever that is.

Yep, it’s more of that talking to everyone to try and hit the trigger event to move the story along.

When I was rushing through without really reading the text the castle section was a complete nightmare.  It took me a while to figure things out.  I don’t think I was the only one as someone asked the same question in the MGU forums.

As it happens it’s fairly straightforward.  Talk to the green-haired kid in the east room.  He asks if you’ll be his friend.  Then go and open the empty chest in the room south of him.  When you come back Prince Henry will be gone and underneath the stool he was sitting on is a stairway to the room below.  Going down there will trigger the next story event – Prince Henry is kidnapped by some rogues and you leave the castle to chase after them.  This puts us back out on the world map with – hopefully – some new naughty girls to play with.

First up we do get a new girl and I recognise her as a monster-girl-arized version of Dragon Quest’s slime knight.  She’s very bouncy and possibly quite mad.  I guess bouncing around all day on a googly-eyed blob of protoplasm will do that to a gal.

Then we hit more palette swaps.

There’s a version of the bug (mole cricket?) girl with blue hair.  The encounter plays out pretty much as it did before.

The bouncing cactus girl comes back in a shade of red.  The Bad End is a little toned down this time and has no mention of her spiky bits.  Given the risk of impalement I guess she’s one for the masochists and danger lovers.

The mad plant comes back and the red incarnation isn’t quite so loopy.  She also has the same switch-to-cowgirl attack.  It looks good but it’s very much blink and you’ll miss it and they don’t use it in the Bad End, sadly.  The Bad End is longer for red plant girl, but – like most of them in DramaraQuest V – it’s easily forgotten.

Then we get a new girl – a ghost mouse/rat.  Despite her mousey appearance, once the Bad End gets rolling she’s very keen on Luka-clone being ‘obedient’ while his sperm tank is drained.

You’d think, given how close we are to the royal castle, they’d have cleared the local territory of monster girl bandits.  Maybe not.  Maybe they treat it as a tourist attraction.  Here’s a slime rider – boing boing boing.

You’d go.  Admit it.

Anyway, after Luka-clone bonks his way through the whole countryside it’s time to head up to the northeast where the not-so-secret villain hideaway is located.  As for what devilish delights are contained within . . . come back next time.

Let's Play DramaraQuest V! part 10

This is a continuation of my playthrough of the DramaraQuest V hentai parody JRPG of Dragon Quest 5.  The first part is here.

Currently we’re off to the ice palace to find a flute that will end the permanent winter and bring about spring in the fairy realm.  That’s the official line.  Really we’re looking for excuses to be screwed by lusty succubi and other monster girls.

Hey, at least I’m honest about my flaws.

The ice palace ends up being a sort of inverse TARDIS (i.e smaller on the inside).  It’s a fairly short section.

There are three wandering mooks on the first floor.  The only new one amongst them is a blonde version of the succubus that cropped up on the second level of the first dungeon.  If you liked that succubus but would have preferred it if she was blonde, the game doth provide.

There are a couple of slippy-slidey ice rooms and then we’re right into the throne room with the ice queen boss sitting on a throne.

Yes, she has the flute.  No, she isn’t going to give it up as she likes winter too much.  So . . . fight!

Or rather . . . fuck!

Unlike the other fights this one doesn’t require too much effort to throw.  It’s actually reasonably challenging to win.  The ice queen has some kind of ice attack that annihilates Luka-clone's defence stat.  After that she starts hitting like a truck.  A truck covered in pretty lace and silk and with a fresh coat of glossy lipstick on the grille, but still a truck.

How easy the fight is depends on how long it takes her to get off that first ice debuff.  After that I’m forced to alternate between attack and heal, and hope my MP doesn’t run out before her HP.

Again the Bad End is sadly not too memorable, being more of the same moves from the fight.  This is a game more focused on putting the sexiness into the battle-fuck part, which is fair enough for a battle-fuck game.  It’s also possible I’m missing a lot from the language barrier.  Machine translation not being the most accurate of things.

After we win the fight the ice queen, fully satisfied I guess (This is a battle-fuck game after all!), hands over the flute.  Then there’s a joke as either Luka-clone or the queen tries to use a chimera wing (the teleport-back-to-town item of choice for the Dragon Quest series) and Luka-clone is sent crashing into the ceiling.  The same joke crops up in the dungeons of Dragon Quest if I remember right.  After much jolly hilarity and possible skull fractures the ice queen reveals a teleporter that takes us right back to the fairy village.

Hey, I had no problem traipsing through the land of snow and boobies.  No problem at all.

Back at the fairy village we hand the flute over to the fairy queen and lo, spring arrives.  And for our reward the fairy queen . . .

. . . jumps our bones.  This shouldn’t have been much of a surprise given what kind of game this is.  The artwork looks very similar to the queen from the last DramaraQuest game.  It’s set up as a fight, but is really a H-scene in disguise.  It doesn’t matter if you win or lose and the fairy queen appears in the NPC section of the recollection room afterwards.

After that it's back to the basement of the inn, where we'll carry on next time.

Let's Play DramaraQuest V! part 9

This is a continuation of my playthrough of the DramaraQuest V hentai parody JRPG of Dragon Quest 5.  The first part is here.

After roaming the icy wastes, we found somewhere that might hold the key to the castle/ice palace in the north.

There’s not much on the first level on the dungeon other than a dodgy-looking dude in a furnished cave.  I think dodgy dude tells us that the key is here, but first we need to find the key to the two locked doors with chests behind them to the south.  There’s a staircase up in the northeast.  Time to go down and see what delights are waiting for us on the second floor.

First up is a new monster girl – some kind of gothic imp/succubus.

She moves her hips in a circular pattern like the stone stature girl.  Again a simple but effective use of limited sprite animation.  She also likes buffing herself with some sort of flame.  Hmm, hot stuff.  Can we take you outside with us for the trek through the snowy wastes?

After that the inevitable palette swaps begin as we get new thorn girl:

New weasel-snake girl:

New worm girl.

Now palette swaps are a feature of the game being parodied and are also a feature of the RPG genre in general.  It’s an easy way to bulk out the encounter list while keeping down memory size (important for old games) and/or art budgets (important for new games).  Personally I don’t think they work well in hentai games, especially monster girl hentai games, where the encounters are (and should be) far more important and detailed than they would be in a mainstream, “normal” RPG.

That’s just my opinion anyway.  For other people different hair or skin colour might turn an encounter they weren’t too fussed about into prime fap material.  Rule 34 is the one rule to rule all.

For a normal RPG a palette-swapped monster usually has different stats and movesets (because the player characters have ground up to significantly higher levels and need to be given fatter stats to battle against for the game to remain challenging (I could make a snarky comment here about JRPGs and “challenging” but then Etrian Odyssey came up to tap me on the shoulder and now I’m hunched up in the corner going wibble)).  The sprite is basically a coloured blob overlaying a list of stats and movesets.  I think a hentai game developer could get around this by giving the new monster girl different sexy moves or vary the Bad Ends.  Unfortunately in this case none of them appear to be significantly different to their original incarnations, so it feels a little like excess padding.

Welcome to the dungeon of the palette swaps.  They could have removed this whole section and the game wouldn’t have lost anything.

Sorry, hot gothic imp/succubus.  It’s not you it’s your friends.

There’s a stairway up into one of the treasure rooms.  The first chest contains the key to open the doors.  The second contains treasure book(?).  I’m assuming this is the key item to open the doors to the ice palace.

And speaking of ice palaces, that’s where we’ll be off next time.

Let's Play DramaraQuest V! part 8

Hmm, another damn pause.  Been a rotten month for writing unfortunately.  Unsurprising, given what’s going on in my life.  Sigh.  Anyway, that’s boring and not why you’re here.  This is the continuation of the DramaraQuest V – a weirdly faithful porn parody of the Dragon Quest V JRPG - playthrough I started back here.

At the moment we’re out in the world map again, which has a distinctly snowy feel as the fairy realm is stuck under perpetual winter.  No worries there.  I’m sure we’ll soon find a nice monster girl willing to “warm” us up.  There are a few roaming the landscape.  Some are repeats, but there are some new additions to monsterpedia.  Let’s get to it, Luka-clone!  Gotta bang them all!

Okay, so we have a girl with a jellyfish for a hat.  And the jellyfish has mad googly eyes.  Nothing weird about this at all, no sir.

I think the hat is supposed to be a cure slime.  I seem to remember seeing those in the one Dragon Quest game I played (IX).  She wants to be human and for this needs – quelle surprise – semen.  At least she doesn’t want to eat us.

(Not that anyone would ever write a story as crazy as a jellyfish girl slurping up her lover . . .)

Ahem, moving along.

There are a couple of plant girls.  One is aptly called mad plant.

Mad plant has an interesting alt attack, but a really short Bad End.  Probably not a bad thing given that the eyes staring off in different directions don’t really add to the eroticism.

The other mad plant (you can tell she’s mad by the way she bounces across the screen) is a cactus girl.  Possible ouchies in that coupling.  She says we’ll get used to it.

Up in the north is a shy sorceress type in a big hood.

I think there was a similar monster girl(s) in the first DramaraQuest.   Her Bad End deviates from the usual as she plays around with some ejaculation control magic.  The game represents this by having the Press to Ejaculate button do nothing but earn a few taunts from her.  Always got to look out for the quiet ones.

There’s also a girl with a tan and a very long tongue.

As with crazy hammer-sex-toy girl, she has an additional attack where she wraps that long attack around our cock.  Keeps it warm in all this snow I guess.

It’s a little sad the developer didn’t give more of the monster girls' extra additional attacks.  They work well and add a lot to the sex battles.

Her Bad End is another tease.  She starts with the tongue, but stops when we hit X to ejaculate.  That would be wasteful to her (I don’t think she’s anything to worry about there.  I think we’ve already established the protagonists of these games have bottomless balls).  Then it’s the fucky-fucky.

Okay, after giving Luka-clone a chance to get his breath back from “battling” all the monsters in the area it’s time to move on with the plot.  Up in the north is another castle.  Unfortunately the doors are shut tight.  Looks like we have to go elsewhere first.  The only other location of note is an igloo/cave in the west.  We’ll check that out next time.

Let's Play DramaraQuest V! part 7

This is a continuation of my playthrough of the DramaraQuest V hentai parody JRPG of Dragon Quest 5.  The first part is here.

Back in the village we pick up the little girl being bullied earlier and she joins the party (not that new additions to the party actually do anything other than follow us around blindly on the world map).  The new girl’s name is Baby Panther or something like that.  There was a series of yes/no’s, which I think I screwed up navigating.  After that we leave Bianca behind while Pops drags us back to the first village.

(At first I thought I screwed this up.  Later on I realised I was missing an NPC sex scene as there was a gap in the recollection room.  I thought it might have been here, so I used an old save game to go back and check.  But no, same as before regardless of which options I take.  Hmm, definitely missed someone somewhere.  Never mind.)

a sad empty space where a mucky pic should be

I’m not sure why Baby Panther is following us around.  I think she exists in the game purely because there’s a similar character in the original Dragon Quest V.  (A quick google check reveals that there was, and it was an actual baby big cat that ended up joining the hero’s party).

Hmm.  What now?  The right-side entrance to the caves is still blocked by the book house dude.  Talking to the new dodgy priest who’s appeared next to the church doesn’t help much either.  All he does is rob us of our shiny gold globe.  That doesn’t trigger anything new either.

This is the part of JRPGs I really hate.  It’s just as bad when the text is all in English.

Eventually we find a fairy hiding out on the second floor of an inn.  Rather pointlessly she relocates to the basement of the inn, forcing us to trudge back to there to trigger the next event.  Down in the darkness she asks us for a favour.  She warns us it’s a little bit dirty . . .

Yeah, we know what that means.

She needs this to return to fairyland.  Any old excuse . . .

Again I’m wondering what the other girl in the party is doing while Luka-clone is vigorously banging the fairy.  Poor lass is going to need several years of therapy once this little adventure is done.

Then it’s off to . . . colourless land?

There’s another sprite on a throne.  This time she’s friendly.

Ah, the reason everything is whited out is because fairyland is stuck in perpetual winter.  Cue next quest segment – find some kind of magic flute to trigger the start of spring.

There are a few friendly monster girls in the fairy village, including a slime girl making a snowman (Hmm, shouldn’t she be frozen?  Do slime girls freeze?)

Then it’s off out into a new world map – ice world.  What winsome enchantresses are waiting for our intrepid protagonist in this winter wonderland?  Find out next time.

Let's Play DramaraQuest V! part 6

This is a continuation of my playthrough of the DramaraQuest V hentai parody JRPG of Dragon Quest 5.  The first part is here.

On the other side of the ghost-shaped door is a monster girl with an inordinately large hat.  I’m not sure if you’re supposed to use the clothing break spell to remove it, if it comes off after half damage, or doesn’t come off at all.  As I finish her off with a big crit, I don’t get to see.

(I did come back later and it appears to be a none-necessary use of the clothing break spell.  The girl is another ghost, a repeat of one of the monsters from the first DramaraQuest.  As with that monster girl, her pussy has an additional tongue which she uses to good effect on our balls in the Bad End.  It’s only your life energy being slurped out, don’t worry about it, Luka-clone.  It’s all in a good cause.)

Then it’s off to a throne room for what I assume is the first real boss fight (although the stone statue girl was also classed as a boss judging by her position in the recollection room).

Or maybe not.  Confronting the ghost on the throne causes a trapdoor to open and drop us down to the bottom floor.  Oh hi again, buxom ghost girl.  More hot wax on my cock, yes please.

On our second entrance into the throne room the ghost sprints off.  Thankfully it’s a short chase and we corner her on the balcony outside.

Cue boss fight music.  A neat theme, if a little ominous for a fluffy H game.

Ha ha.  Her special attack has three mini-spirits licking Luka-clone’s cock.  Not exactly sexy, but certainly amusing.

After defeating her there’s a yes/no option I don’t understand too well.  Hitting yes gives us a gold globe, I think.

(Hitting no causes thunder to growl and the game to scowl at you until you select yes. So there's nothing missed by not taking the other option.)

Then we’re immediately sent to the village in daytime and the cluster of three kids on an island.  This seems an appropriate point to break for now.  Next time we’ll be off . . . where?

Let's Play DramaraQuest V! part 5

This is a continuation of my playthrough of the DramaraQuest V hentai parody JRPG of Dragon Quest 5.  The first part is here.

After a little sortie in the outside world, it’s off to the next dungeon – a spooky castle.

Hmm, burnt out bonfire.  Massive double doors to enter.  Anyone having flashbacks here?

Rargh!  The demon with the fat arse is going to mash us into the flagstones again.

(Dark Souls reference)

(Other aside – wouldn’t a porn parody of Dark Souls be awesome.  Prepare to Die . . . Sexily!)

The main door to the castle is locked.  There’s a ladder on the right-hand side.  Climbing up leads to an open door on the topmost floor.  It looks like we’ll be fighting our way down to unlock the main gate from the other side.  On the second floor down a bunch of ghosts materialise and spirit Bianca away.

Rescue the princess . . . uh, innkeeper’s daughter.

Then there’s a bit of weirdness.  On a parapet outside I find two gravestones – one with Luka-clone’s name, the other with Bianca’s.  She reappears after touching her gravestone.

Well, that was a short rescue mission.  A ghost in the next room moves some bookcases and exposes a stairway down.  Another ghost in another room mentions we need to find something (a torch) by a piano to defeat ghosts.  A few staircases later and a stone statue comes to life and tries to molest us.

The crude animation is done fairly well here.  There are sprites layered over each other to give a greater semblance of movement.  In this case it’s the stone statue giving her hips a little swirl.

She beats me.  And this time it’s legitimate rather than ordering Luka-clone to throw the fight.  I’m probably under-levelled from trying to rush through too quickly.  In the Bad End she keeps swirling those hips around with Luka-clone’s dick in her pussy.  Nice.

And there’s no real cost to losing.  We wake up outside the castle by the bonfire.

During the rematch I realise she’s probably a mid-boss character given the change in the battle theme music.  She also has a buff to her attacks after her boobs are uncovered.  That would explain why she critted me from nowhere.  I also notice that I learnt a healing spell after going up to level 4.  That makes the fight somewhat easier.

Downstairs there are a few new monsters and we find out the reason for the anti-ghost weapon.  It’s the key to open a door (the passageway blocked by an angry black cloud).

Roaming around finds a new monster to play with – a crazy chick with a scythe and chains.  She’s less threatening than she looks and talks a lot about being the experienced “older sister” when she fucks us.

Down another flight of stairs and there’s the piano.  It’s also the bottommost floor and we can now open the front door.  A nice shortcut for when we “accidentally” lose to these sexy spirits.  In the piano room are two more new monsters:

A flame spirit (I think we might need an asbestos condom here, Luka-clone).

And a rather buxom ghost candle girl.  I guess she likes a bit of hot wax play.  She’s definitely hot stuff (Ba-da-bum.  Sorry).

Checking the piano reveals inevitable angst over whether I’m standing on the right spot when checking it as there’s bugger all there.  Then there’s much running around and wasted time while I try to figure out which trigger I’ve missed.  Did I read the old duffer ghost’s task right?

Yes, I did.  After going back to check, turns out the old duffer had it wrong and it was in a chest of drawers in his room the whole time.

Ha ha, hilarious.  Fuck you, DramaraQuest.  Grumble grumble.

Anyway, that’s the key to get past the door masquerading as an angry black blob.

Join us next time for part two of the spooky castle.
