Song for the Week: Kvelertak - Mjød

Love those crazy Norwegians. There's still a bit of that viking blood bubbling away under the surface. "Mjød" from Kvelertak's eponymous album:

    I can just about convince myself that those four opening syllables are "I'm too se-xy!"

    Cheers for posting. Never paid much attention to metal before. Having now heard some gothic metal, this is going to have to change.

    Can you recommend any songs in adulation of a terrifying/perfect/predatory woman, a la Lillith Immaculate? A more tongue-in-cheek example is youtube /watch?v=bGLrrTbF3t8 :)

    Dimmu Borgir has the classic "Succubus in Rapture" from "Enthrone Darkness Triumphant".

    Early Cradle of Filth is also good - "Vempire", "Dusk and Her Embrace". "Malice through the Looking Glass" off the latter is a personal fave.

    A lot of bands run a 'beauty and beast' style. Clean female vocals, growls from a guy. Nightwish are one of the more famous bands and might be a little more accessible.

    I also quite like some Lacuna Coil or Sirenia if I'm in the mood for something lighter.

    Hehe. I'm not sure. I haven't unleashed the technical death metal yet. :)

    Or the really old Genesis videos where Phil Collins was just a drummer and still had hair :)

    I respect Kvelertak for the "Fuck it, we're Norwegian, we're going to sing in Norwegian, fuck you!" attitude. :) I don't pay attention to mainstream music anymore, but I reckon there are at least 2 or 3 tracks off the Kvelertak album that deserve to be huge hits in any sane music charts.

    Of course, then we'd have to hate them as being obnoxious populist fodder and not kvlt enough... :)

    Not seen them, but I bet they're a blast live.

    Although... actually no, I can't even call you on old Genesis!

    Exactly - so many foreign bands that decide to sing in english, when quite frankly I'm sure they'd do better (and make a hell of a lot more sense) in their native tongue!And sadly - I don't think there are any sane music charts anymore - especially not here in the UK, even the metal ones are pants! I shudder to look at the cover of Metal Hammer magazine now just in case they've got My Chemical Romance or some shit on the cover - then I'll know that I'm an old metaller :-( Even worse if it was Terrorizer mag.

    My taste is so broad these days - the mainstream stuff is for mainly when I fancy a good old sing along... can't really growl/scream along quietly to myself in the kitchen ;-) HAHA thats a very very fair point there!!

    They're immensely tight live - really really talented blokes. Saw them not too long ago in Manchester, and meeting them, weirdly the only thing I could think about was... 'christ, how much hair?!!' lol ;-)
