Let's Play Monmusu Quest: Paradox! part 8

Unlocking the Merchant Job and Recruiting Half of the Loli Bandits

This is my continuing playthrough/guide to monster girl hentai game Monmusu Quest: Paradox.  The first part of the epic quest can be found back here.

Yesterday Paradox was in remake mode as we repeated the loli bandit storyline from the first series.  The difference this time around is that they’re recruitable.

Goblin girl is the easiest.  Talk to the grandpa in this house.

Then catch Goblin girl while she runs around by the fountain.

The next is the mercantile-obsessed Vanilla, the Vampire Girl.  But before then we need to unlock the Merchant job.  This involves visiting the hill in the desert region to the east of Iliasville.  Chances are most players might have already been there as the wandering monsters surrounding it are low-level slimes.  In my first, doomed, look at the game this region was the second I visited as it looked the second place to go based on the strength of the monsters.  It might be, but I didn’t seem able to unlock the Merchant quest until after visiting Iliasburg. (EDIT - You can and probably should do the merchant quest before fighting the loli bandits)

To unlock the quest you need to speak to the merchant NPC in the item shop in Iliasville.

Then it’s over to Talus Hills (which translates to the Hill of Cod through one of my machine translators).  They can be found here:

The guard at the entrance gives the helpful hint that mandragoras are weak to fire.  Mandragora was the first optional encounter in MGQ and had an annoying paralysing scream.  The hills are full of them.  With them are a brand new type of monster girl – a wee little dog girl.

Not my type really, but she might scratch someone’s itchy frontal lobes.

Her temptation attack is a sloppy blowjob with lots of tongue that carries on into the Bad End.  Then I think you end up sort of her involuntary master, or something like that.

One of the disappointing things about the demo was the only new monsters were her and the pink Bunni slime.  It didn’t bother me too much as I knew it was almost certain Toro Toro Resistance had created ridiculous numbers of new monster girls to play with anyway.  I’m not sure it sent out the right signal having so many repeats in the demo though.

Rami, the big-titted imp, is very useful in this area as her fire magic is good for setting mandragoras on fire and the dog girls – as Beasts – are vulnerable to pleasure attacks like the imps’ Melty Kiss.

Somewhere a little north of the entrance the lost merchant can be found flat on his back next to a mandragora.  Bless her, she says her scream 'accidentally' paralysed him and she’s staying with him to make sure no harm comes to him.  Or so she says.  She could have been fucking him senseless a few moments ago for all we know.  Giving the merchant Full Moon Grass (the paralysation cure) gets him back on his feet.

Back in Iliasville and the merchant gives us a nice reward including the certificate required to unlock the Merchant job.

I don’t think it’s a bad idea to change Luka to the Merchant job.  It nerfs his attacking abilities, but most of the time Luka is either using Talk to recruit new party member or flat on his back underneath a horny monster girl (they nearly always target him for the dirty stuff).  Merchant has a boost to HP (good for the battle-fucks) and provides a nice 1.5x modifier to gold picked up after winning battles.

Forget all this violent adventuring malarkey, son.  Trading is where it’s at.

Now it’s time for the loli Vampire Girl.  She’s trying to sell her own wares in the item shop in Iliasburg.  As her wares are commonplace things like acorns, rocks and weeds, she’s not having much success.

It’s freshly-graduated-from-school-of-merchanting Luka to the rescue.  This is another quest.

Speak to the merchant NPC back in Iliasville.  He recommends going back to the Talus Hills and looking for a big beetle because… JRPG.  The big beetle can be found on this big tree in the west part of Talus Hills.

I don’t really know why big beetle, but after we take it back to Vanilla she’s able to sell it to some gullible local lad and this pleases her enough for her to join the party in the hope of finding more lucrative business opportunities.

Recruiting Vanilla also opens up the item shop in the Pocket Castle.  This is to the right of the main entrance.  Either Vanilla will be standing behind the counter or one of her bat minions if she’s currently in the party.

The selection in the shop starts off pitiful, but can be expanded by performing a series of missions for Vanilla.  They all seem to start the same way – have Vanilla in the party and buy something from her shop.  Afterwards she’ll tell you what she’s missing and where to go to find it.

The first expansion is adding Medicinal Herbs to the selection.  That’s done by taking Vanilla to the same NPC merchant from the merchant quest line above.

The second expansion adds abnormal status curing items.  Initially that involves talking to the same merchant, but then he sends us back out to the Talus Hills and the same mandragora as before.  Talk to her and Vanilla will cut a deal.

After that is Phoenix Tail Feather.  But first that involves…  Oh yeah, we’ll get to that tomorrow when we head off to the Nameless Slum in search of Amira’s information.

These missions require Vanilla to be in the party, but to be honest, she’s a surprisingly useful party member anyway.  She starts as Merchant, which gives the 1.5x bonus to gold found.  She also has the Thievery ability to nick stuff off enemies, which means she can fulfil the party thief role.  On top of that she has a number of magic and special attacks such as Lightning, HP Drain and even attacking multiple opponents with a flock of bats.  Coupled with the (presumably) high base stats of the Vampire race and she’s a lot in a single pint-sized package.  Her one weakness is she doesn’t like being set on fire, but that tends to put a crimp on the day for most people.

Let's Play Monmusu Quest: Paradox! part 7

The Loli Bandits Return

This is my playthrough and guide to Monmusu Quest: Paradox.  If you’re just joining now, the first part can be found back here.

Currently we’re searching for Amira, the wrong-way-round lamia, because she might have information on where the White Rabbit has run off to.  If that sounds weird, welcome to world of Japanese RPGs.

The first dungeon to visit is the hideout of the loli bandits.  That’s a cave to the north-west of Iliasburg.

Across the bridge to the west and the slime girl encounters change to earthworm girls.  One of these wiped my party when I wandered a bit too far north at the start of the game.  Now I’m levelled up and geared up for them not to be a problem… until one asks Luka if he’d be more comfortable with her slippery body wrapped around him.

Oh Luka…

She winds her slimy tail around his cock and plays with it until he comes.  Then, in the Bad End, the end of that tail opens up and gives Luka a good slimy suck until he’s empty.  It’s the same Bad End as from the MGQ series as far as I can see.

When you recruit her the earthworm girl can also use that attack on enemies and it looks as filthy as you’d imagine.

The first time I played through this section I’d completely missed the end of the Amira quest chain.  On entering the bandit hideout the first thing I saw was an ominous row of grave markers.  It looked even worse after I’d explored the caves and found no sign of the bandits.  Had they been offed in this alt universe and replaced with the adorable imp squad?

No, turned out I hadn’t spoken to the right NPCs.

This time Goblin girl is hanging out at the entrance.

The others are waiting inside.

Tiny Lamia

Vampire Girl

And the Dragon Puppy.

The loli bandits were popular characters from the first MGQ because they were cute, adorable and their role in the story did a lot to show that, despite ostensibly being a sex game, MGQ was going to have a real story and not just a bit of filler to pad out between sex scenes.  In Paradox the story is the same as before – the bandits, crying and snivelling, are taken back to Iliasburg to face justice.

As with the original MGQ series, the townsfolk take pity on the loli bandits and give them all jobs.  In the original series this scene did a lot to establish Luka’s motivation.  He’s not a hero off to slay dragons and fill his boots with gold coins.  Co-existence is his goal and over the course of his adventures he proves this by resolving conflicts between humans and monster girls in the towns and villages he visits (which pays off magnificently in the third chapter).

The scene doesn’t work as well in Paradox.  One, we’ve already seen it before.  And two, the Paradox universe is different to MGQ – monster girls and humans are already co-existing to some extent, so it means less for the townsfolk to take the wayward bandits in.  I’m wondering if Toro Toro Resistance should have varied this section to show the differences between the two universes, but to be honest I can’t think of anything that works.

The loli bandits all have Bad End sex scenes as with the original.  To be honest I never bothered with them back then and not now either.  Didn't fit the characters in my thinking (and loli has never been my thing).  The beauty of the MGQ series as a whole is that it tends to a wide range of kinks.  Bored with the cute and fluffy stuff so far?  Don’t worry, there will probably be some crazier and more sadistic stuff coming along later.

As a reward, Luka and party get a free night to stay at the swanky Sutherland Inn.  There are no sexy bits with Alice this time around (probably a good thing given the current body she’s in).

Tiny Lamia is working there as a maid.  You can ask her to join the party but she refuses as there’s too much work to do as the usual harpy staff are all missing.

Amira (the regrettable wrong-way-round lamia from the first series) is roaming around outside.  One thing I have been impressed with so far is the artwork used to personalise the smaller sprites.  With most RPG-maker clones it tends to be very generic.

Talking to her gives you the option to either cut her or ask her name.  Cutting her apparently murderates her, and is a Bad Idea.  (all the guides warn not to select the first option as it kills her)

Must… resist… taking the first option.

Slice!

No, it’s okay Amira.  No fucking way am I spending hours wandering around aimlessly again.

Amira wasn’t kidnapped.  The bandits just stole the trash can she was sleeping in and chucked her away when they realised (no-one wants the unfortunate lamia).

She’s a snitch or information dealer and offers to sell information on the whereabouts of the White Rabbit for an eye-watering 1500G.  It’s best not to pay her and instead select the third option (negotiate) as this opens up a quest line in the Nameless Slum, a village to the west.  She wants information on an illicit trade in phoenix tail feathers (an item used to revive knocked out characters).

But before we head off there are a couple of quests that will enable us to recruit some of the loli bandits.  I’ll go through those tomorrow.

Let's Play Monmusu Quest: Paradox! part 5

Restarts and Battle-Fucking

This is the fifth part of my likely extremely lengthy playthrough of the monster girl hentai game, Monmusu Quest: Paradox.  The first part can be found here.

Right it’s time to leave the starting village behind and head off to Iliasburg.

First, a confession.  This isn’t the first time playing through this section.  Originally I intended this to be my live impressions while playing through the game, warts’n’all.  Then I bollocksed something important up in Iliasburg that resulted in me wandering aimlessly from village to village, fighting slightly harder wandering mooks each time, but not triggering any plot events at all.  After a few hours of this I swallowed my pride and looked up an online guide (thanks cwhart for the link to the pastebin with the walkthrough).  Machine translation is good enough to give a rough gist of what’s going on, but it’s also very easy to miss specific quest instructions.

I did think about posting those doomed wanderings for the amusement value, but the game is already long enough as it is and endless ‘missed the quest NPC, wandered into the wrong place and got flattened by higher-levelled mooks’ posts would likely get very old, very quickly.

One quick restart later and we’re back on the right path.

Here are some hints and tips from things I noticed from my first – aborted – playthrough.

Levelling the whole party up to level two in Thief and Priest so they all have access to the basic Steal and Heal actions doesn’t work.  Some learnt skills carry over between Job changes.  These two don’t.

Level and Job progression seems very slow (although this might be because I’m playing on Hard difficulty).  There are a couple of accessories that can help out.

The first is Hard Job Wrist.  This is found in the village storeroom in Iliasville.  What it does is double Job (and Race – I think they both level up with Job XP) XP received at the cost of not receiving any normal XP.  The party member I think you want to give this to is Lime.  The game has hinted that Slimes might be the Magikarp race.  Their stats are fairly shite, but apparently they can change race into much stronger slime variants.  Also you want to level up Thief quickly so they gain access to the skills required to open the various colour-coded chests.

The second accessory doubles XP (just normal XP) at the cost of the wearer starting every combat with the numb, darkness and silence abnormal statuses.  This renders them effectively useless in combat, but as you have four backup party slots that still gain XP even if they aren’t involved in combat…

This accessory can (occasionally) be stolen from Imps and is also sold in Pornburg (the village south-east of Iliasville).  As long as you’re sure you don’t need them in combat, equipping the whole back line with this should speed up their levelling.  Just remember to take them off just before a boss fight as it’s slightly awkward when your first line is wiped and the second line comes in blind, immobile and useless.

Right, time to head off to Iliasburg.

No, wait.  There was something else I missed.

What, more mechanics?  How much is in this damn game!

Yet another new addition with Paradox is Battle-Fucking.

Um, isn’t the whole game about battle-fucking.

Well yes…

This was another thing I missed first time around.  In each village/town there is a girl that offers to battle-fuck Luka.  Now this isn’t a battle-fuck as you might find in battle-fuck games like ROBF.  As explained by Marie in the starting village, it used to be a competition between men and women to see who could make the other come first, but as it was nearly impossible for men to win they changed it to mean the woman has five minutes to use every sexy technique they know to make the man come.  The man wagers a fee and then sees if he can hang on.

It’s not prostitution at all, oh no.

I managed to miss this explanation and was a bit confused when I bumped into the second BF girl in Iliasburg.

Marie is found in one of the normal houses in Iliasville.  After speaking to her the small tent in the woods to the west of Illiasville is unlocked and Luka can challenge her leet handjob skills.

You won’t win.  At least not at first.

Each battle-fuck does a set amount of HP reduction to Luka.  If he has high enough HP, he wins.  If not, then the BF girl is going to be cleaning white stuff off her.

Given all the opportunities for Luka to get off in-canon within Paradox I’m guessing this universe’s Alice won’t be as jealous as the one in MGQ-verse.

However, BFs are more than just an excuse to squeeze in more H content (and squeeze out more white sauce).  In the pocket castle the maid has an option to teleport the player directly to any known BF encounter.  As there’s a BF opponent in each town, the player can use this as a fast means of travelling between already-visited towns.

Hmm, I appear to have gone on too long again.

It looks like Iliasburg will have to wait until tomorrow.  We will get there, honest!

Let's Play Monmusu Quest: Paradox! part 4

Unlocking the Soldier Job and finding the Imps

This is part 4 of my playthrough of monster girl hentai game Monmusu Quest: Paradox.  The first part can be read back here.

So far we haven’t made that much progress.  Mainly because it looks like Toro Toro Resistance has stuffed this game full of game mechanics.  It took nearly 2,000 words and two blog posts to describe the tutorial stuff.

But now we’re free.  We’re out in the open countryside, baby.  Let’s see what debauchery awaits us.

I let the freedom go a little to my head and wander a little too far.  In the west there’s a big forest.  The notice at the entrance warns novice adventurers not to enter.  Now where’s the fun in that.

I deliberately wander into the forest and a pair of fairies obliterate me so savagely it’s comical.  After a bit of naughty flower suction applied to Luka’s member I decide I’m probably not supposed to go in there just yet.

Or too far north apparently either.

We run into an earthworm girl.  She coils around the party one-by-one and reduces each to quivering orgasm (yes, the monster girls can do the sexy stuff to each other) and then applies the suction tail to Luka’s cock and slurps him up until he’s empty.

Hmm.  I suspect this is following the Dark Souls school of player guiding.  The correct path to follow is the one where the monsters don’t obliterate you in two combat rounds.

That would appear to be the small cave in the south.  Along the way I bump into more pink bunny slimes and one of them joins the party.

The other monster girls are the slug girls that were encountered just after Alice in the original MGQ series.  While the artwork and Bad End is the same, they do have some additional art linked to their temptation attack.  In this case the Slug Girl offers to wind her long, slimy tongue around Luka’s cock and give him a very satisfying blowjob.

If you accept a temptation attack and let the monster girl carry on doing the nice stuff until your HP runs out, the rest of the party expresses their disgust and leaves Luka to his Bad End.

I suspect this will be a very common fate for Luka…

I was a little disappointed when I played the demo and saw most of the encounters were monster girls that had already appeared in the previous MGQ series.  Normally that would look a little lazy, but I think what Paradox has done in giving the old monster girls new art and moves (slime girl’s slime heaven scene in the Pocket Castle, slug girl's temptation blowjob) keeps them from coming across as too stale.

The Cave of Trials that contains the item needed to unlock the soldier job is a little way to the south of Iliasville.

Down in the cave a new monster girl shows up – the stupendously busty imp.  In the original series she was a joke encounter that appeared later on (twice).  Luka only lost to her if he chose to and there was even a special achievement if you unloaded Luka’s max-powered sword skill on her.  Here she appears at a time more in line with her power level and can fight.

The imp also has some fairly aggressive sex attacks.  A few times Luka was thrown on the floor and found his dick wedged up in tight imp pussy.  This is another change from the original series.  In those games if Luka’s manhood ever entered monster girl pussy that was usually the end of the fight.  It might take a while for the sexy monster girl to suck out all his HP, but the moment Luka entered her he was helpless to do anything as she slowly slurped up his HP.  In Paradox he has a party backing him up.  If they beat the imp before she makes him come it’s all good.  In fact it doesn’t even matter if the imp rides him all the way to lusty cumplosions.  Luka is just a member of the party.  As long as the whole party isn’t wiped it doesn’t matter how badly he’s despoiled in the process.

Conceptually this is a pretty big change.  The sexy stuff being done to Luka has less impact when it’s just part of a general party melee.  The game can’t really use the different art showing bound status either (not just Luka can be bound).  Personally I think there’s a trade-off here in that the fights and party management have grown in complexity at the expense of the eroticism of the original player-on-their-own fights of the original series.  To be fair the developers have tried to compensate for this with the new temptation attacks as well as the higher-happiness-unlocking-new-sex-acts mechanic in the pocket castle.

Like all the other monster girls so far, the imp is also recruitable.  I didn’t think it was possible to convey the imp’s ridiculous bustiness in the topdown dungeon-wandering sprites, but the artist in this case made a damn good fist of it.

DoA breast physics – JRPG-style.

The Proof of Courage is in a chest at the bottom of the dungeon.  After picking that up we head back to Iliasville.

With Rami the imp in the party it’s now possible to recruit her two friends.  Both can be found in Iliasville.

Remi, who appears to be very timid, is hiding in the village stores (they can be reached down some stairs not far from the poison marsh).

The other one, Rumi, is sitting on a strawberry patch.

Remi is a useful backup priest.  Rumi starts out as a Martial Artist, but I changed her job to make her a backup Thief.  I’ve found it’s always good to have a backup Priest and Thief in case the other ones get knocked out.  The game gives you a lot of flexibility in swapping between main and backup parties even in the middle of combat.

Rami herself is a Magician and quite adept at setting things on fire.  What I did find useful about the imps was their Sexcraft attacks.  Melty Kiss has a chance of making the target horny, which (I think) increases the amount of damage future pleasure attacks do.  Melty Kiss followed by a pleasure attack like Lime’s Slime Draw often does a lot of damage.

Combos, combos…

Anyway, I’ll leave it there.  Next time I think we’ll leave Iliasville behind and head off to Iliasburg.

Let's Play Monmusu Quest: Paradox! part 3

Alice’s Portable Pocket Castle

This is part 3 of the likely epic playthrough of Monmusu Quest: Paradox.  Last time I hung out at the main temple in the starting village and attempted to absorb the vast chunks of RPG gameplay Toro Toro has crammed into Paradox.

We’re not done there either.  On stepping out of the village Alice introduces us to a new mechanic – the portable Pocket Castle.

Before then there’s another bit of plot.

As with the first series, Alice notices Luka is holding back out of fear of killing the monster girls and is about to give Luka the Angel Halo sword when—

“Time stop.”

—Nero shows up and half inches it as being “too powerful” for now.

Thieving bastard!

Although it does make sense.  The usual RPG mechanics of seeking out more powerful weapons would be rendered completely irrelevant if Luka was given an infinity+ sword made out of 666 melted angels right at the start.

Alice is a bit confused by not being able to find the sword, but it doesn’t matter.  As she puts it, monster girls are both tough and not fanatics.  They’ll give in before they get beaten up too badly so Luka doesn’t need to hold back.

She has another prezzie anyway – the Pocket Castle.  This is the headquarters Luka can enter at any time.  I imagine this is where his enormous (assuming he can recruit all the monster girls) harem is going to end up.  The castle is freaking enormous.  Thankfully there’s a maid who can teleport you from room to room.

This introduces another mechanic.  Luka can ask his monster girls for various sexy stuff providing their happiness is high enough.  Ostensibly this is a way for Luka (and the player) to safely (sort of) experience the various sexy Bad Ends.  For some monster girls it also unlocks additional scenes such as this delightful Slime Heaven sex scene with the blue slime girl.

This counts as one I made later.  To unlock it you need to raise her happiness to 100.  Raising happiness is done through giving them gifts they like (fish in the case of Lime) or having them fight alongside you in the party.  For fighting I think they have to be in the active party rather than the backup party.

Oh yeah, that’s something I probably missed.  The max party size is eight.  This is four active members and four backup members.  You don’t have to worry about leaving spaces for new recruits.  If you have the full complement of party members and recruit a new monster girl you’re given the option of sending her or one of the other party back to the Pocket Castle.  (Again, this is something that comes up later, but makes sense to talk about now).

From what I’ve see the backup members pick up XP and Job XP, but not happiness.  Getting Lime up to hundred took a lot of fights and fish, but the reward is a nice gloopy slime girl scene without worrying about the slime girl trying to digest you at the end (you didn’t know MGQ was that type of series?  Oh boy are you in for some fun in these coming weeks. :) )

Also in the castle is a small noticeboard right after the entrance.  I think that’s where various monster girls will leave details of possible side quests to benefit them.

Right, that’s the Pocket Castle out of the way.

Let’s get out there to the fields of hungry wet vaginas.

But first, Lime (the blue slime girl) mentions she’d like to see how the soldier who tried to help her earlier is getting on.  This is a subtle pointer in the direction of the first quest.

The soldier has also managed to get himself trapped in the poison marsh.  We carry him out and he explains how to unlock the Soldier Job.  There’s a Proof of Bravery item hidden in a chest at the bottom of some caves to the south of the village.  It used to be easy to get (as witnessed by how staggeringly incompetent the soldiers of Iliasville are), but now monster girls have taken the caves over.

Seems like we have a first location to check out… tomorrow.
