Desire Dungeon: Basic Guide

As I mentioned in my review a couple of days ago, Desire Dungeon is a sweet little Monster Girl game that actually plays like a game. This can also make it a little confusing to play (although not as confusing as the massive RPGmaker-type clones). Here’s a handy little guide to ease the pain while waiting for an English translation.

Red bar is life. Blue bar is willpower. If either empties, the fight is over. Physical and Magical attacks affect the red bar. Pleasure attacks affect the blue bar. Most skills also cost willpower to use. (Note, the bars for the monster girl are not displayed until you pick up the Werewolf’s skill)

Command options are:
Physical Attack
Pleasure Attack
Skill (These are picked up from the monster girls)
Run Away

Monster girls follow different strategies and sometimes switch if you start using pleasure attacks on them. Figuring out how to counter them is part of the fun of the game, so I won’t spoil it.

Defeat the monster girl through pleasure attacks and you get the “good” H-scene and a skill. Most of them are useful and some are essential.

Defeat the monster through conventional damage and you get a treasure chest.

Treasure Chests

First off you get a choice to open the chest (top) or ignore it (bottom). Successfully opening a chest requires clicking either the left or right mouse button a number of times equal to the chest’s level. You have a kind of thief level depending on accessories carried and latent skills obtained from some monster girls. For each ‘thief’ level you have, the correct option of L or R is displayed. If the chest’s level is higher, you’ll see ?s instead. This means you’ll have to guess. Guess wrong and you’ll set off a trap.

Chests contain money or mystery items. You won’t know what an item is until you exit the dungeon and get it appraised by the shopkeeper. The shop only contains the first two tiers of items. You’ll need to find better items from the chests once you get deeper into the dungeon.

Options are:
Go to Dungeon

In the town locations the bottom two options are always Talk and Leave. Right-clicking also is the same as selecting Leave (or Back one menu option).

Only the top two options matter.

Sleep: restores health/willpower to full and levels up character if they have enough XP. You can only level up here.
Save Game

The shop is actually fairly important. First off, this is where you go to have items found in the dungeon identified. This is done automatically on exiting the dungeon, so there’s no need to worry about selecting it. Your character doesn’t carry duplicate items. If you find an item you already have the shopkeeper gives you money for it instead.

The commands are:

The character has 3 stats for both attack and defence that equate to:

Weapons and armour focus on one of those three stats in that order. The shop contains only the first two tiers. You’ll need to find the better stuff in the chests.

The shop sells two accessories:
Thief’s tools: Gives +1 to opening chests. (You should buy this ASAP as it makes opening chests a lot easier)
Anti-Paralysis Thing: The witch on the first level has a magical attack that can paralyse the character for a few turns. This negates it.

Other accessories have to be found in the chests. I suck at this, so the only one I turned up was an item that negated sleep attacks (useful against the 2nd boss).

The items are potions and a statuette of a frog:
50% red bar
100% red bar
50% blue bar
100% blue bar

The character can only carry a maximum of 3 of each item.

Potions can’t be used in combat. Mostly you can do without until the 3rd level, where you’ll need a blue potion after each battle.

The frog teleports you out of the dungeon and back to town. The game became a lot easier for me once I figured out what it did.

Always carry a frog!

Options are:
Donate Gold: Converts money to XP.
Cleansing ritual: There’s a nasty mechanic in the game. If you lose 5 times to a monster girl, she gets a lot harder to beat. You can reset this, but it costs everything you have. It’s not going to come up unless you want to play the game iron man-style with no save-scumming.

Three dudes tell you how to play the game. Just some basic background info.

Status screen

Can be accessed by right-clicking in either the town or dungeon.

Top left is:
Item: Use potions/frogs outside of battle
Skill: Heal outside of battle
Config: ロード (load) is the command you’ll most likely be using from this menu

Bottom left is equipment in the order of:

Right panel lists stats and XP.

First off, you can only level up by going back to the inn and sleeping (which doesn’t cost any money).  If you lose a battle, you lose all the XP you picked up and drop down a level (but you also get a naughty H-scene to make up for it).  Lose 5 times to the same girl and they become a lot harder to beat.

Most of the time it’s best just to save-scum.  Save before you go into the dungeon and reload if you get a good bonking.  You don’t lose anything and you keep at the same level.  If it sounds scummy, that’s why they call it save-scumming.

The start of the game will go something like this:

You start off with 100G.  You can immediately convert this to 10XP at the church and go up to Level 2.  But as defeating a fairy gives 10XP and level 2, it’s better to save the money.

Step 1:  Enter dungeon, defeat first fairy (reload if you get smeared by the werewolf instead), exit, level up.

Step 2: Enter dungeon, defeat a couple of fairies (hopefully avoiding the werewolf), exit, level up to 3.

Step 3: You should have about 200G.  Buy cucumber (3rd weapon, tier 1, pleasure weapon).  Beat fairy with pleasure attacks to pick up Heal skill.

Step 4: With Heal, you should now be able to tackle the werewolf.  Be wary of using pleasure attacks as the Werewolf is a lot harder to beat that way (you’re supposed to knock her red bar down first to stop her pinning you, but that hint didn’t come up for me until I’d beaten her the hard way).

From here keep going in and out to build up cash and levels.

Buy the thief’s tools early as it’ll stop you triggering the chest traps.  (The werewolf’s skill also helps)

The witch starts appearing around step 50.  If her paralyse attack gets annoying, pick up the anti-paralysis accessory from the shop.

Step 100 is the end of the level and the boss fight.  You’ll get a warning prompt at step 99 asking whether you want to go on.

Hints and Tips

Get the Mimic’s skill early.  She’s appears as one of the trap types (deliberately select the wrong button when opening a chest to trigger the traps).  Her level scales with your character, so you’ll probably need to wait until you’ve got good kit/skills to compensate.  Her skill is +2 to opening chests and makes it a lot easier to find the good items in the level 3+ chests. (I beat her late, which explains my suckitude at finding the cool accessories)

The second boss will auto-win at the start of the fight unless you use Slime’s skill (Mimicry).  This can be used outside of combat and makes a copy of you that soaks up the first attack.  It can also be used in combat and is fairly useful against another of the monsters.

You'll need willpower potions to advance along the third level.  The vampire in particular (despite being a gorgeous busty goddess of lurve) has a very annoying grapple attack that drains willpower while simultaneously replenishing both her bars.

Always carry a frog!

The game caps out at level 30.  I think the developers included this as a ‘you will be able to finish our game no matter how terrible you are (guilty - *sigh*)’ feature.

This didn’t trigger for me (probably because of all my dirty save-scumming), but other players have mentioned there are slightly different endings where the player hooks up with one of the monster girls (text rather than additional H-scenes).  Harpy and Fighter have endings I've been told.  I don’t know if that means there’s an ending for all girls, or what triggers them.  Drop by in the comments if you figure it out.

Hope this helps anyway.

P.S. If you like this game, you'll probably also like my books

  1. no matter how hard i tried,I still cant defeat the werewolf TT if I attack too much, she ran away, but even i tried pleasure attack before one more deadly attack, she would still win me with pleasure attack

    1. I didn't beat the werewolf with pleasure attacks until I'd ground up a few levels and came back to her. One of the hints in the game mentions using normal attacks to knock her red bar low and then switching to pleasure attacks.

    2. finally beat it,but i used a better pleasure weapon to beat it though, i am lv7 currently. Thanks for the guide too,it helped me a lot.
Can't wait for dargoth to finish translate this game ^^

  2. if your still around do you have any info on beating the 1st boss that warrior lady?

    1. This game is grind heavy, in case nobody noticed. In the end it all comes down to what level you are and if you have appropriate gear. Most can be beaten with physical resist gear.
      Fairy - easy.
Werewolf - ero resist when trying to ero her.
      Sorcerer - magic resit.
Mimic - hanky-panky weapon and physical resist armor.
Fighter - physical resist and just ero or magic attack her (watch our for when she guards - use that time to heal or just defend).
Dragon newt - easy when have "counter"; to ero - beat nearly to death and then ero (found it easier that way).
Harpy - nothing special there, high enough level and gear is all u need.
Slime - with "Truth glasses" she never hits you; before that just ero resit and defend when she splits or magic attack her (often hits the correct one).
And the second boss is Lilim - seems like i'm missing something since i cant resist her charm, but doesnt seem to need an accessory... Maybe need to farm A grade magic resit armor (so far maxing 150 M.resit @lvl30 with Brigndine).

    3. I can't remember on the first boss. I think I just ground up to a high enough level and equipped the best shop equip to beat her.

The second boss, Lilim, has an autowin move she uses right at the start and in the battle. There's an item that negates it, I think. The easiest way is to defeat the slime using pleasure attacks and learn her skill (Copy, or something like that - the first attack an enemy does hits the copy instead of you). You can use the skill outside of battle. Use it before you enter the battle with Lilim and then her autowin attack will hit the copy instead of you.

    4. I even lost to Lilim more than 5 times. After that,i try to use Mirage before fight her,and then when she use charm, she failed to attract it because she target your mirage, and then you have your turn.
I have end the game, but still curious about having marriage with them(The Last Boss saying about marriage-things).

    5. You can get extra messages (few lines of text) from some of the girls as part of the ending scene. I never managed to trigger it.

    6. obtain the short epilogues of the MG
Break-bonds(Just to be sure to get your desired end)
Get defeated twice and H twice, by your loved MG, then Leave city

  3. *Spoilers* => If you wanna beat "Lilim", trigger the Mimicry skill first before walking the 100th step. If you don't have that skill yet then seduce "Slime" before engaging Lilim. The Mimicry skill will negate her "Charm" Attack that she throws right off the bat. Also she will use the skill again and you can't get out of it once caught by it. Your saving grace is the fact that before she hits with the Charm spell she skips a turn by "assimilating power". That is your que for triggering the Mimicry skill again. Also pray she doesn't use Charm much. Cost of mimicry is pretty high and unless you have the armor from the last boss[Fighter] of level 1, she is gonna hit like a truck. So even if you have the "battle cry" skill from Dragon Newt your HP is gonna go down fast. My recommendation, lvl up around 25 or so before engaging her. Also equip "Anti-sleep bell" cause she loves to use that skill as well. Though when I went against her I resisted all her sleep attacks cause I was almost 29. Good Luck.

  4. Replies
    1. Zone out to the city. Go to the inn. Save option will pop up right below "Rest".

  5. How can I beat Succubus in Ero atks cant find a way to knockher down to gain her ability for the upcoming boss at warp 3 any ideas plz ?

    1. IDEALLY you should get up to level 30 because your stats go and SHOOT up really high.

get the best pleasure weapon you have "i used a cusinheart vibrator" and just keep it up with the ero attacks. Squizze as much HP and MP out of your self as you can i mean almost all of it because you'll need it, and then use the restoring skills for them.

Another option is the beat the orouboros with pleasure attacks and learn her skill moebius and her moebius ring helps during the fight as well

    2. Im already at lvl 30 everything were turning smoothly and easy fights till i ended up with Succubus i can kill her but cant defeat her in ero to gain her abitity , Well then Thnx for the tip dude wish me luck xD

    3. Gosh I reached till Orouboros as u said but suddenly my english ver have been translated till Orouboros fight when i fight her its turning into Jp version and I get and error and the closes automatically T , T

    4. I don't think the succubus on lvl3 is beatable with pleasure attacks until you defeat Ouroboros and gain her ability to switch the life bars.

    5. Lol I actually did win lol xDD it was just like a damn luck after i got the full translation , b4 i fought with succubus i prepered the clone thing from slime skill and walk into her and kept atking an ero atk till my mp reaches 100 or less im using the regain back Mp from ur Hp I kept doing that till i owned her when i had at least 24 mp remains x'D well thnx for the tips :) & btw i cant figure out how to make an ending with the monsters so i can beat the game any ideas plz ?

    6. I never figured out how to get the alternate endings or even if all monster girls have them (it's some extra dialogue on the ending text from what I've heard)

    7. I just got the ending with the fairy, I think to do so, you have to get all her encounter dialogues, both of the "good" H-scenes and both of the "bad" H-scenes. I tested by doing each one by one, saved hen ended the game then once I did the my only remaining scene, the "bad" one, I saved again the left and finally got the ending... I hope it will help someone if I'm right.

  6. I reached till Orouboros as u said but suddenly my english ver have been translated till Orouboros fight when i fight her its turning into Jp version and I get and error and the closes automatically please help me

    1. Can't help with that one, sorry. I only ever played the Japanese version. Dargoth's site (google Dargoth Translations) might be able to help you out as I think they did the English translation.

  7. I've wanted to 100% this game for years! Grinding is a joke, 50 weapons and 50 armors by the end of the dungeon is almost depression inducing!
My tips about the most counter-intuitive features:
-Mimic is simple either defeat her as soon as you get an above your average H-weapon or suffer until the end of the game (lvl 30 you should be able to beat her even with C tier weapons, but for real try doing it with a D-tier h-weapon on a very low level)
-90-99 steps always give the best loot on the floor, always grind the best items (and the three skills) of the floor before going against its boss
-Most girls are easier to beat with normal attacks but always win once with H-attacks before the bosses and, if possible, defeat all bosses in the first run with h-attacks.

S-items are the hell to find! But three have a special pre-requisite in the later end-game:
-defeat the 1st boss (Fighter) with a physical attack (excalibur and lv25 are more than enough, if you are hunting S tier items you WILL be lv30). It allows you to get a copy of her armor
-defeat Lilim with a magic attack (nothing a lv30 with A-tier magic weapon can't do) you get her wand
-defeat Ouroborous if H-attack (good look with the HP/MP dance she does it's a small amount of luck and a ton of patience) you get her ring

    Best build to farm items:
    God hand (double attack)
Mantle of purity (vamp's magic just 1 HP ... Suc you get you naked but won't have two turns so ...)
    Ten Thieves Virtues (+2 of it + +2 of Mimic's + +1 of Wolf's)

I feel in purgatory playing it already just the last weapon and I'm free to go, just one single item!
