Hentai Game Review: Lv1勇者が女神・邪神と♀モンスター繁殖計画始めました! (Lv1 Yushe Breeding Program)

Okay, I’m not really sure what the best translated version of that title is.  I’ve gone with Lv1 Yushe Breeding Program, although the full title is something like Lv1 brave man began a ♀ monster breeding plan with a goddess and an evil deity!  I suspect someone will pin a snappy English fan name on it that will stick.  It’s a monster girl hentai game and it might be the most bonkers one I’ve played so far.

The trial (big yellow button) has to be played to be believed.

In generic fantasy-world-land the numbers of monster girls are declining.  They’re waiting for the hero fated to save them with his magic cum, or something like that.  The hero is born but his father really wanted a daughter and decides to raise him as one anyway.

Uh, okay.

The hero(ine?) leaves on some adventure or other and gets waylaid outside the first village by the head of the ‘good’ and ‘evil’ monster girls.  These are an angel/dragon thing and a succubus/centaur thing respectively.  They’ve teamed up to solve the declining monster girl population problem by finding the hero and forcing him to mate with monster girls all across the world.  The first H-scenes give a good indication of what the hero and player...

This isn't going to go well...
...are in for.

...ngn!!!!!
Ouch.

First stop is a forest inhabited by slime girls.  The hero and a cute slime girl are a bit clueless as to what to do next, so the succubus/centaur girl turns the hero into a raging sex bull monster with a two-foot penis to force the issue.

Uh, okay.

At this point I’m wondering what the main game mechanics are as sex combat has largely been on autopilot so far.  Then follows a sort of mini-game quest sequence where the hero picks a path and has to navigate traps, treasure chests and other monster encounters.  Then it’s off to the next location—some kind of shrine with a temple dog woman with enormous jugs, a girl with a giant mouth coming out of the back of her head and a talking cat.  There are also lots of cat girls.  Which sets up the next mini-game where the hero has to touch parts (guess which!) of a cat girl’s body in the right order.

One of the quest mini-games.
Then they all head off on a quest to find Yggdrasil, the world tree (and frequent canon immigrant from Norse mythology to JRPGs).  During this the hero manages to fall off a cliff.  The others throw the cat after him and both have to find their way through a forest maze while chased by a giant lusty minotaur woman.

And this is just in the trial.  The makers deserve a lot of credit for making so much of the game available to sample.  It’s worth downloading as there’s probably a couple of hours worth of material there.  I think in this case they had to in order to get an idea of what the game is about.

The game is part visual novel and part collection of varying mini-games.  Combat crops up regularly, but largely runs without any input from the player.  The quest locations, where the hero follows a branching route, also appear frequently.  Other main mechanics include the monster girl villages.  Once the player unlocks these the goal is increase the number of inhabitants.  To do this they have to replenish their... um... magical cum, which happens whenever they complete a quest branch or certain story events.  As the population of the village increases it unlocks H-scenes and further story paths for that village.

Oddly, it works.  The artwork and overall production is gorgeous.  It matches up well with the H-scenes of Violated Hero 2 in terms of quality.  They’re not shy of aiming for an epic feel and proper story either, despite being a sex game.  This is the moment you find Yggdrasil at the end of the trial.

The protagonist is down on the bottom-left.  They have a cat on top of their head.  Don't ask.

On top of that nearly everything features voice work.  The story and characters have plenty of humour as well, although I probably missed a lot of it through reliance on crude auto-translation.  I had to switch to ITH for the text-hooking on this one as AGTH was struggling, although I’ve been told this code fixes things for AGTH: /HA-C@FC4C8.

The one downside is I didn’t find the game that sexy.  It’s a little too weird.  More like a gross-out sex comedy than a hot porn film, if that makes any sense.  Quite a few of the Bad Ends are straight-up ‘bad’ Bad Ends such as being torn apart and eaten by harpies, or the hero being trapped in a wall of meat while someone shoves a cock down their throat, rather than the ‘good’ Bad Ends more typical to games like Violated Hero or Monster Girl Quest.  In the end it didn’t matter that much as I was having so much fun wondering what crazy shit the game was going to do next.

Worth a look and the trial is extensive enough to give players a good idea of whether the game is for them or not.

Hentai Game Review: Desire Dungeon

I talked about Desire Dungeon as a monster girl game to look out for back here.  It came out a couple of weeks ago, but not on the English dlsite.com for some reason.  I bought it off another site (gyutto) after the usual fun and games of figuring out where to enter my cc details on a Japanese language site.

It’s another monster girl game-over-rape game in the vein of Monster Girl Quest and Violated Hero.  The key difference is there are also H-scenes for winning fights, so the poor put-upon hero can also get the goodies on winning for a change.  As the player also picks up new skills this way, some of which are required to beat certain monsters, you’ll want to do this for more than just the fap factor.

Unlike Violated Hero, there isn’t really any exploration as such.  Each level in the dungeon is a single corridor of 100 steps.  Desire Dungeon’s focus is on finding items and picking up skills.  It’s rare to find a hentai game that pays more than a passing glance to the actual game mechanics, but Desire Dungeon squeezes a lot of juice out of simple but effective elements.  I found I had to make use of nearly all the items, options and skills during the game, which is a good indicator of tight, economical game design.

Remember me, Mr Jackson?

Combat (and armour/weapons) is divided between physical, magical and pleasure attacks.  Characters have a red health bar and a blue willpower bar.  If either runs out the fight is lost.  This gives extra dimensions to combat as the player has the choice of either winning conventionally or by turning the monster girl on until she gives in (which rewards the player with the monster girl’s H-scene and skill).  Each monster girl also has her own strategy.  For instance the angel will beat up the player,  but only to set up a devastating “heal” attack where she undos all the damage she inflicted while wiping out the player’s willpower bar.

It’s not an easy game.  Levelling up can only be done back at the town, and whenever you lose, the monster girl... ahem... slurps a level out of the player.  This means some caution is required.  It’s a proper game rather than a visual novel with naughty bits.  This means a little grinding is required, but thankfully not enough for it to get tedious.

There are 13 monster girls in all, each with their own “good” and “bad” H-scene.  As usual with these games, the makers are trying to cover a broad range of fetishes, positions and body shapes.  Both of the succubi-type monsters were a little too loli-esque for me, but this was made up for by a very busty vampire.  There’s going to be something here for most monster girl enthusiasts.

I don't think it's your blood she's interested in...

Overall, Desire Dungeon doesn’t have the epic storyline of Monster Girl Quest or the lushly drawn H-scenes of Violated Hero, but it’s a solid game with well-designed mechanics.  Definitely worth a look for monster girl fans and it should fill the gap while waiting for Torotoro Resistance to finish their epic.

An English translation doesn’t exist yet, but someone is working on it.

Even more Monster Girl filth from dlsite.com

Here's a little roundup of various Monster Girl/Succubus related games'n'hentai I've bumped into recently.

The success of Monster Girl Quest continues to spawn imitators with a couple of games on the Coming Soon list.

This one looks like it might be interesting:

Desire Dungeon

Their page can be found here.

The demo currently shows the start of the game and part of the first level, with a fairy being the only encounter available. It looks like a combination of elements of Succubus Quest, Monster Girl Quest and Violated Hero. Violated Hero is probably the closest, but without a lot of the mistakes Violated Hero made. It looks like items and equipment will play a greater part and the player can gain abilities from defeating monsters through pleasure attacks rather than normal attacks (the fairy gives a healing spell). As with Monster Girl Quest it looks like losing will result in H-Scenes as does winning through pleasure attacks. The odd thing is the dungeon appears to be a single straight line, so it might be a dungeon crawler without any exploration.

Projected to be out in October and might be worth a look.

Here's something that's out now, but is more of a Visual Novel:

Nymph Principal - The School Ruled By Succubus

It's on dlsite.com here.

It's a VN rather than a game. There are choices to be made every so often, but they essentially boil down to "Would you like to be raped by a succubus now?" or "Would you like to continue the story?" The trial version is well worth grabbing because of . . . well this:

. . . which is rather tasty. Sadly the rest of the game isn't up to the same standards with artwork - as so often with these things - being a bit of a mixed bag. Rather frustratingly, they tease you throughout most of the game with the other well-drawn succubus, but when her H-Scene arrives . . . yep, it's a trap. Grrr to the surprise futanari, although the scene is probably quite hot for people that like that kind of thing. (And I'm hardly one to talk given the various horrors I've ambushed readers with in my weirder stories).

Well worth downloading the trial anyway.

And some voice works:

Daretoku Saimin Seisakujo

Can't remember if I've mentioned them before, but this circle puts out some pretty good Monster Girl-related voice works in a similar vein to Toro Toro Resistance's releases before he put Monster Girl Quest together. Like with those releases, full scripts are included. The hypnosis part is probably baloney . . . I think . . .

And in the same vein, but been around longer:

Dream Voice

Another circle doing voice work, although they don't appear to be active anymore. I picked up the spider girl one when I was trying to fathom out how to navigate the Japanese site. The succubus bad end one is hot. They also have full scripts included.

The artwork is by UN_DO. I wasn't too impressed with their work on the Monster Girl Quest games, but the work (mainly additional pics of some of the monsters from MGQ) on their own website is actually much better.

Plenty there to keep the filthy little black cells in my imagination sparking away . . . :)

EDIT 23rd July 2012: Something I should have made clearer on the voice works. They have scripts, but they are in Japanese. You'll need to use a translator like AGTH and be good at keeping track of where the story is (recognising words or onomatopoeia helps) to get the best out of them (and also have enough imagination to fill in the odd blank where the auto translation whiffs).

Monster Girl Quest: Chapter 2 is Out!

I was going to do a "While you're waiting for Toro Toro to finish Chapter 2 of Monster Girl Quest, you might also be interested in..." post, but:

http://www.dlsite.com/ecchi-eng/work/=/product_id/RE087736.html

Yay!

For a detailed guide on how to understand what's going on if you (like me, sadly) can't read Japanese, there's my earlier post here. If you'd rather wait for a translated version, I'm sure the ever-busy RogueTranslator will be beavering away on it over the Xmas period. He has a blog now to keep people updated, which is here.

It's great to see the game has already sold nearly 2,000 copies (on the Japanese site) in the first couple of hours. It also makes me think I should really find a way to work some of my ideas into a game rather than only writing books (and maybe keeping Horror-head under tighter control!). :D

As usual I will attempt to ride on Alice's tail like a little remora freeloading scraps. If you like this game, I'm fairly sure you'll also enjoy my books. ;)

Anyway, I think I may be...uh...occupied for this evening.

For...ahem...research purposes. Obviously.

Eihi Shiina Double Bill, Part Two: Tokyo Gore Police

If you thought the manga/anime coming out of Japan was crazy...

Tokyo Gore Police. To use the cliché: it's exactly what it says on the tin.

The film is directed by legendary gore-fx master, Yoshihiro Nishimura, and, exactly as the name suggests, is incredibly gory. This is gore taken up to eleven. People grow chainsaws and cannons out of their open wounds, there's a duel featuring a quadruple amputee with blades on each stump, a girl with crocodile jaws in place of her nether regions, and gallons and gallons of fake blood. At one point a character even uses the blood spraying from his severed legs as a jet pack. It's that crazy.

It's what I love about Japanese films. They aren't afraid to leap out of the box and take off in weird directions to shock and surprise the audience. Sure, some might think the whole thing comes across as silly and nonsensical, but who cares when it's an excuse to come up with scenes of such audacious bizarreness they leave the viewer's jaw on the floor at the whole 'WTF' of it all.

Oh, and Eihi Shiina is lovely and serene throughout.

Once again, I realise I have much further to go.

Monster Girl Quest. In English!

After checking the blog’s stats page I was surprised to see daily hits holding steady around 800-1000. I expected them to drop off once I’d finished the Locked in with a Succubus serial and especially when I fell off the radar for the last couple of weeks trying to fight off writer’s block.

A quick check of the google search terms reveals most of you are here looking for the Monster Girl Quest game.

Ah…

That’s *sob* cool. It’s a *sob* cool game. *sob*

Joking aside, I’m really glad the game appears to be picking up a lot of interest. Torotoro Resistance (I hope I’ve got that right) did a fantastic job in creating a complex H-game with a great story to go with the CG sets. That it’s attracted a lot of interest is marvellous, as it means there’s plenty of incentive to get the other chapters done.

(Yep, I’m waiting eagerly for chapter two as well)

Of course, as I set this blog up to promote my books, it would be remiss of me not to point out if you like the many sexy bad endings found in this game, then you will also like my stories. Yeah, I know you’d expect me to say that anyway, but in this case I feel I can do so without a shred of guilt. Writing about sexy, delectable succubi bringing their victims to an ecstatic end is my specialty. If you like the game you WILL like my stories. Give one of my books a try. ;)

In the meantime, in case you weren’t already aware of it, the fantastically hard-working IchigoGyuunyuu/RogueTranslator has finished work on an English translation of the game. Information on which can be found here.

More fun with Japanese translations...

I’m quite impressed with this automated machine translation malarkey. I mentioned it last week when I talked about a Japanese game coming out that looked like fun. A quick poke around the http://mon110.sakura.ne.jp website reveals they’ve (I think it’s the same people, but I may be wrong) also done a series of audio plays. The name of the series auto-translates to “Whispers of human habitation Rina - Tengai - Slutty girl and inhuman treatment”, which is probably wrong as that sounds horribly unwieldy.

If you like my stories, then you’ll probably enjoy these audios as they feature being captured and then pleasurably...um...drained by various femdom-y succubi and monster girls. For those that like that kind of thing, they even provide some alternative endings with a more vorish bent. Mostly it’s lots of shlurp shlurp (with a variety of squelchy sound effects that sound like a brush being plunged back and forth into a pot of paste) until the victim ejaculates themselves to death (or exhaustion). My faves are probably Vol.7 with the Arachne and Vol.10 with the big-titted Succubus Lilia (Lily I presume).

They are in Japanese, which normally would be a substantial hurdle if, like me, you can’t speak a word of the language. Thankfully, they also provide transcripts of the audios. These are also in Japanese, but with handy use of Ctrl+C and Translation Aggregator, voila, English words fall out. Again, it’s automated machine translation, so the usual caveats about using common-sense and imagination to make sense of the translations apply. Mapping the transcripts to the voices is a little tricky, but I found it got easier once I started recognising the “fufufus” and the “ora oras”. After that it’s a case of lying back and enjoying their work. The corrupted little story-making cells in my brain have certainly been twitching with fresh inspiration.

If they are the same people, I think it’s a pity they aren’t planning to include voice work in the forthcoming game. Some of these scenarios rendered as a game would be a lot of fun I think.

There is some hentai artwork of varying quality included with the volumes. Some of the victims border a little too close to shotacon for my tastes, but that’s often par for the course with these things. Oi, artists! Real succubi can take down real men y’know! It’s only pixels in case anyone’s feeling too outraged. Me, I’m just here for the freaky monster girls with big boobies.

Well worth a listen if you fancy being teased and taunted by a Japanese energy-sapping succubus. My Japanese vocabulary has increased, albeit with words I suspect I must never ever utter in public! ;)

A game release I'm looking forward to

This game at http://mon110.sakura.ne.jp looks like fun. It’s a Japanese RPG. You play a brave lad who picks up his sword and heads out into the world looking for adventure...and ends up being, um, molested by various sexy monster girls.

There’s a demo up which features a bit of introduction and a fight (sort of) with a slime girl. It looks a bit like Succubus Quest, only with more elaborate ending sequences when you lose the fight (which is the fun part let’s face it).

Yes, it is in Japanese, but I managed to hook it up to some automated translation software. Which sounds rather complicated, but thankfully a very nice person up on hongfire.com has posted a comprehensive guide on how to set this up. The translations are far from perfect, as you’d expect from automated machine translation, but if you use your imagination they’re good enough to follow what’s going on.

The first part of the game is scheduled for around January/February. They boast of featuring nearly 200 types of monster girl in the finished game, some of which look very weird indeed judging from the side menu. That sounds awesome, but also a little worrying. 200 seems like a heck of a lot of work. If the rest of the encounters are as detailed as the one with the slime girl in the demo, the game would still be awesome even with only 20 types. I’d rather see a completed game with fewer enemies than a too-ambitious project doomed to an eternity in development limbo.

Anyway, I’m looking forward to its release when I can go forth and engage in unmentionable sexual acts with...ahem...save the world from dastardly demon girls.

Censorshit in Japan?

I was sad to read this article on Japan passing restrictions on the sale of manga and anime. I've been a fan of both for some time. I love them for their 'anything goes' ethos. The stories always felt more vibrant and alive because nothing was ever out of bounds. The plots are weird, often incomprehensible, but this makes them a better reflection of the often chaotic real world we live in.

To see what I mean, ditch the Disney (okay, you can keep the Pixar) this Christmas and show the kids Princess Mononoke instead. 'Goodies' and 'Baddies'? Um, it's a little more complex than that.

Okay, something like Princess Mononoke is hardly going to fall foul of the new restrictions, but they're still blocking off potential avenues and roads a story can run down. Block enough of them and all you're left with is following that same dull highway every damn time.
