Hentai Game Look - In the Castle of Succubi

Text, text and yet more text.  That’s the short summary of In the Castle of Succubi.

Like its predecessor, House of Monster Girls, In the Castle of Succubi is less a game and more a visual novel with the occasional choice (usually along the lines of ‘Would you like this particular succubus to bonk your brains out?’).  Also like its predecessor, In the Castle of Succubi is aimed squarely at fans of big breasts.  All of the succubi are blessed with super-ginormous norks and there is an emphasis on paizuri (titwank) scenes.

The plot has you play an adventurer of some description that falls foul of a trap in the demons’ castle.  This puts you at the mercy of a succession of lovely succubi who are all very keen to take good care of you.  Their idea of care seems to involve wrapping their soft mammaries around your dick and rubbing up and down until all that inconvenient tension floods right out.

Much much much rubbing up and down.

There are six succubi in total.  The first part of the visual novel goes through each giving you paizuri in turn.  The second part has some choices and a wider range of sex acts.

Unfortunately, like its predecessor, In the Castle of Succubi has an ungodly amount of text.  This is definitely not shying away from the novel part of visual novel.  Be prepared to do a lot of clicking, and clicking, and clicking, to move to the next juicy big-boobed succubus pic.  In the end I lost patience with trying to follow the machine-translated text and resorted to clicking through like mad just to get to the next scene.  To me it seemed like there was about four times as many lines of description as there needed to be.  I appreciate this is probably an unfair criticism.  If you were to take one of my stories and bung it in a visual novel framework with a couple of naughty pics to illustrate it, I’m sure it would be just as frustrating for a non-English-speaking Japanese person to attempt to read.

No matter how well endowed you are, she's still going to smother it.

One for big boob lovers, although the amount of text to wade through is daunting.

Hentai Game Look - Succubus Nests

This is a Look rather than a Review because it’s for games I bought but didn’t get into for one reason or another.  This isn’t necessarily the game’s fault, which is why I don’t feel comfortable describing these as reviews for products I’ve only really skimmed the surface of.

Succubus Nests suckered me with the trial.  And the title.

Admittedly I probably suckered myself by making a hasty purchase without fully checking it out.  Either way it didn’t end up being the game I thought it would be.

The protagonists are three “magical” girls with specialities in gun, sword and magic cards respectively.  They’re trying to fight off the malign influence of a succubus and purify locations on an island.

When it comes to porn games my preference is for male player characters being sexually dominated by hot monster girls.  I’m also okay with the player character being female so long as the hot, sexy monster girls get plenty of opportunity to do their thang.  What doesn’t work for me is seeing hapless female player characters getting stripped and buggered by ugly male demons and non-anthro critters.

(As an aside, I should make it clear I don’t think there’s anything wrong with people making their porn games follow these lines.  Fantasy is fantasy.  Be extremely wary of the people that try to argue otherwise, even if the target of their ire is something you personally find distasteful.  Give them that and they’ll come back for something you enjoy.  Sadly, given recent news, opposing these censorious, holier-than-thou types is more important than ever.)

Back to Succubus Nests.  The gameplay involves selecting a one- or two-person party and sending them off to purify an area.  There’s a screen focused on each party member where you can observe them walking, fighting, or having sexy snu-snu done to them without their consent.  The girls handle the encounters fairly autonomously.  The only player input is to order them to escape or fire off their special attacks.  At the start the girls flatten their opponents without much problem.  As they progress deeper into the area being purified their stamina drops and they become more susceptible to their opponents’ attacks.  At first it’s restraint, but if you don’t yank them out of there it becomes molestation followed by full-blown rape until the hapless lasses end up catatonic.

My guess is there is a strategy to figure out for when to hit certain “nests” and which of the three girls to bring on the mission (they have strengths and weaknesses vs. different monsters).  I never played long enough to figure it out and I found the fact that most of the game runs autonomously a little annoying.

Bondage in the woods with your friendly neighbourhood spider-woman

The most common encounter in the trial version are Arachne spider women that try and bind up the player in silk.  This, the title and the presence of a succubus in the cut scene made me think this was going to be a girl vs monster girl game.  Sadly, this isn’t the case.  In the full game the only monster girls I saw were the arachne and a futa succubus.  The other encounters consisted of ugly male demons and non-anthro critters such as maggots, slimes, scorpions, electric jellyfish and even dogs.  Standard ryona (female characters having their clothes ripped off before being abused) fare in other words.

This mission did not go well.

With the little windows onto the action, Succubus Nests reminded me of Pretty Warrior May Cry – another game featuring unmentionable things done to pretty female warriors.  That game had interesting enough mechanics and enough OTT humour to hold my attention even if most of the sexual content wasn’t to my taste.  Succubus Nests fell short for me.

I can’t really say if it’s a good or a bad game, only that it didn’t appeal to me personally.

(As I said with Pretty Warrior May Cry - would really love to see a sexy monster girl version with similar animated sex scenes.)

Hentai Geme Review: Pendulum

Blimmin’ ‘eck, this is ‘ard (Disclaimer: Hydra skipped the golden era of Mario and Sonic games and is consequentially not very good at 2D platformers).

Pendulum is a 2D monster girl hentai platformer with pixel sex scenes along the same lines as Eroico and Monsters ‘n Girls.  The gameplay is straightforward.  You start at the bottom of a themed tower and jump your way up to the top and next level.  Getting in your way is an assortment of monster girls that slow you down by performing sex acts on you.  Slow up too much and you both get a dunk in nice hot lava.

The towers are procedurally generated from what I can tell, in that the positions of the platforms and monster girls vary each time you play the game.  This makes some runs easier and some very difficult depending on where things are positioned.  The difficulty ramps up considerably as the checkpoints get further apart.  The first two levels seemed straightforward (there are five in total), the third had me pulling out my teeth, and - after just about crawling through the third - the fourth ruthlessly pummelled my battered body into the dirt.  Thankfully, the developer(s) included a full save with the game, so even if you’re as inept as me you can still see all the content.

Gameplay-wise it’s pretty good.  The main character handles well and it all feels very fluid – and retro in a good way – as you bounce your way to the top.  Where it falls short is the hentai part.  It does have sex bits, but the crudeness of the sprites and tone leans more towards saucy humour than actual hawtness.  This is a pretty bad failing for a sex game, which is unfortunate as I quite liked the idiosyncrasies of the art design.

Not a bad little game, but possibly a little too quirky for its own good.

Musings on the Let's Plays and Hentai Game Reviews

I’m going to make a few changes to the Let’s Plays and how I blog about monster girl games.  Initially the detailed playthroughs of monster girl hentai games seemed a good way to generate material for this blog.  While they’re fun and give me an incentive to actually play all the way through a game, they do take up time that might be better spent on writing my own original fiction.

Also, the entertainment of the playthrough is dependent on how interesting the game is.  To be honest, DramaraQuest V didn’t give me a lot to work with other than an excuse to post pictures of semi-naked anime monster girls (not that bad of a thing, admittedly!).  I suspect there was also a lack of interest out there judging by the tail off in hits and number of comments.

This doesn’t mean I won’t be doing any more Let’s Plays.  I’m just going to be a little choosy with the games I do.  The other thing I want to do is get the reviews out faster.  Currently I tack them onto the end of the playthroughs as a more permanent summary of my thoughts on the game.  What I’ll aim to do is to switch it around and put the review out first so they’ll be a better resource for readers wondering whether they should purchase the game or not.  If I find the game sufficiently interesting/sexy/batshit crazy, or you out there want to see more of it, I’ll start a Let’s Play and go through in more detail.

If I really like the game I’ll probably throw Jackson into it for the shits and giggles.  It’s about time I got his adventures restarted again.

And yes, I will give Mon-musu Quest: Paradox the full Let’s Play treatment when it comes out (Ilias help me!).  That one will almost certainly be interesting/sexy/batshit craxy enough to merit a more detailed look.

Hentai Game Review - DramaraQuest V

The confusingly named DramaraQuest V is actually the second entry in the DramaraQuest series of games.  The reason for V instead of II is because DramaraQuest is a hentai parody of Dragon Quest V.  It follows closely the plot of the first third of the latter game, replacing the normal monsters with sexy monster girl equivalents and switching the emphasis of the combat to sex rather than fighting.

DramaraQuest is a battlefuck game.  Battles are decided by the combatants attempting to fuck the other into submission.  If the player happens to be the one submitting (because their HP is reduced to 0), then the game will offer up an additional sexy Bad End.  Outside of the battlefucks it’s the standard JRPG skeleton – you, as the main protagonist, wander through dungeons, villages and the outside world map in search of the trigger events that will advance the story along.  If you want a more detailed look I blogged a full playthrough, starting here.

The artwork is good and has a consistent style across the whole game.  The monster girls are converted versions of classic monsters from the Dragon Quest series and it’s fun trying to guess what they were originally (with the hammerhood being the most creative transformation).  The encounters have some limited animation achieved through simple distortions of the base sprites.  This is reasonably effective in some places.

One of DramaraQuest's more imaginative conversions

There are a couple of positives over the previous DramaraQuest game.  Rather than abstract portraits/clouds of black smoke, the monster girls are represented on the map as little chibi sprites.  Also, while there is some palette swapping to bulk up the monsterpedia, it’s nowhere near as prevalent as it was in the first game.  The game has about twenty-odd monster types, with some having variants in hair and skin colour.

On the negative side the battlefucks and Bad Ends are a little generic and bland.  There’s not much variety to the monster girls’ attacks and the strategy is very simple.  On the plus side, experience progression is fast enough that the player won’t need to resort to grinding to advance further into the game.

Yep, you did see it right.  It was a sex toy.

I mentioned above that DramaraQuest V is a porn parody of Dragon Quest V.  What I should add is that it is a weirdly accurate following of the Dragon Quest V game.  Personally I find it a little odd when named characters are “borrowed” and thrust into porn scenarios.  This didn’t trigger for DramaraQuest V as I’m not very familiar with the game it’s based on, but it might for some.  If you loved the game in the past it might be a little off to see the innkeeper’s daughter getting up to things the innkeeper definitely wouldn’t approve of.

Or very arousing.  Everyone is different in this regard.

Sticking so faithfully to the original also creates a jarring disconnect between the conventional JRPG bits, where a legendary hero is dragging his young son around from place to place, and the battlefuck bits, where the young son suddenly morphs into Casanova++ and bonks the whole countryside into submission.  I don’t think the makers needed to follow the plot of the original Dragon Quest V quite so slavishly.  Although there’s a possibility I might be missing the point of the whole project here.

Sadly, not many of DramaraQuest's monster girls have additional attacks as detailed as this.

Overall DramaraQuest V is an okay monster girl hentai game without being an exceptional one.  The game’s biggest problem is it doesn’t really excel at anything enough to distinguish it from its competitors.  The Violated Hero series has prettier art and more imaginative designs.  Monster Girl Quest has a much more involved story.  ROBF has more complex combat mechanics and handles the battlefucks much better.  If you’re on a tight budget, you’re better off checking out those games first.  If you already have and are twiddling your thumbs waiting for Mon-musu Quest: Paradox to come out, then DramaraQuest will at least give you some sexy distractions for a few nights.

Hentai Game Review - Monmusu Delicious -Dinner-

Well, we've already had breakfast and lunch, so it's only fitting we move onto dinner.

http://www.dlsite.com/ecchi-eng/work/=/product_id/RE141547.html

Monmusu Delicious -Dinner- is the third in Tokonokogiri's series of vore scenarios featuring characters from the popular hentai game Monster Girl Quest.  I covered the other installments, Monmusu Delicious -Breakfast- and Monmusu Delicious -Lunch-, in previous blog posts.  There's also plenty to be found on Monster Girl Quest here on this blog if you're new to all this.  I still rate MGQ as the best of the monster girl hentai games out there.

Again, the same things I said about the previous chapters apply.  Monmusu Delicious -Dinner- isn't a game, but rather a series of Bad End scenarios similar to the Bad End scenarios in MGQ.  It's mostly static images with text, although Toko has added little bits of animation to some of the scenes (the imp scene in particular).  The scenarios are flash files and should be viewable in any browser.

(Hmm, I used to be fairly good with Flash and action scripting.  Why haven't I haven't I tried doing this with some of my monster girl creations?  Ah, yeah, art skills lacking.  But if I did find an artist...)

The other thing I should mention before we go any further is that Monmusu Delicious -Dinner- is catering exclusively to the vore fetish.  You might recall MGQ had a few scenes where the protagonist, Luka, had the misfortune of ending up in the belly of the monster girl after (and sometimes while) having sex with her.  If that was a big nope! for you and you played the game with the vore-ish stuff switched off, this is going to be a big nope! as well as it's all of the same.

It's a snake-eat-snake world
The other other thing I should mention is that the text is all in Japanese.  However, Dargoth has translated the previous installments, so if you're patient there might be an English translation of this at some point in the future.

-Breakfast- and -Lunch- took monster girls from chapters 1 and 2 of MGQ.  -Dinner- moves onto chapter 3, which means there's no shortage of monster girls to use as, let's face it, everything was trying to eat Luka in the final chapter.  Black Alice, predictably, gets a scene and - as with the Succubus Witch from -Lunch- - you get the choice of ending up in either her belly or her womb.  Lamia lovers are well served as the Shirohebi, Sister Lamia, Alice's undead mother, and the Lamiaroid all get scenes (the poor loli lamia also shows up at the wrong end of the food chain).  Also featured are the Dragon Zombie Girl, Slime Bess and the Spider Princess.  In the guest section are scenes with Tamamo, Alma Elma and Emily.  Promenstein (I think) also gets to surprise Luka with starfish vagina.  Perhaps the oddest inclusion is the joke Imp character as predator rather than prey.  She gets to give miniaturized Luka a comprehensive smooshing in her massive breasts.

Mini-Luka in XXXL Marshmallow Hell (he's in there somewhere)
Missed off this time are the angels (no love for poor Delphinus's art it seems).  This might be a good thing for most people as Delphinus's creations in chapter 3 definitely emphasized the monster of monster girl.  Personally I think it might have been interesting to see another artist's interpretation of them.  Plus, we'd get to see someone eaten by a pomegranate, and you don't get much weirder than someone being eaten by a pomegranate.

There is also a bonus Monmusu Delicious -Dessert-, but I can't really comment on it as it requires codes found in -Breakfast- and -Lunch-, and I don't appear to have -Breakfast- anymore.  I think I deleted it after Dargoth converted the scenarios into custom scenes that could played in the original MGQ, or it's been left behind on an old laptop somewhere.  Oh well.  If you have all three, click on the author's banner at the bottom of the webpage for instructions on how to find it (I had to - shudder - view it in Internet Explorer as the Japanese alphabet was getting scrambled in my other browsers).  I've heard it's a scene with Alma Elma, the succubus with the sucky-fucky-then-gulp-you-all-downy tail from MGQ.

Hmm, and now I appear to be two vore stories behind.  When -Breakfast- came out I noticed they'd missed off the Sea Anemone Girl and so I wrote a story featuring a Sea Anemone Girl.  I said I'd also do one of the omitted girls (or something similar - either one of the plant girls or the dragon with a girl for a tongue) from -Lunch- and still haven't gotten around to it.  MGQ chapter 3 gives plenty of options.  Like I said earlier, everything was trying to eat Luka in that one.  Maybe I'll take one of Delphinus's angel designs as inspiration.

Hentai Game Review - Violated Hero 4: Another Story

The Violated Hero series is one of the bigger monster girl hentai franchises.  Currently they’re up to five games, some of which have been translated into English by enthusiastic fan translators.  The games feature rudimentary RPG battles, but the main focus is on the ludicrously over-the-top Bad End hentai scenes that are unlocked after losing to boss characters.

Before Violated Hero 4 came out they ran a fan competition to have people submit designs for characters to go into the next game.  Only two out of ten finalists made it into VH4, but the makers, Dieselmine, must have liked some of the other designs as well, as two of them feature in Violated Hero 4: Another Story.

It’s an additional chapter set after the events of Violated Hero 4.  Two new monster girls are present—the slime girl armour mimic, Irizu, and dream-bending imp/succubus, Mea.  Also Lilith and Marietta the robot maid return from Violated Hero 4.

There are also a couple of new wandering monster designs, but the RPG aspects are reduced this time around.  It’s more like a visual novel with a lot of text linking the various H-scenes together and it did feel a little wordy in places.

There are seven sex scenes in total—two with Lilith, two with Irizu, two with Mea, and a bonus group scene unlocked after seeing all the others.

Great for people that wanted more Lilith from Violated Hero 4.  Also a good and inexpensive taster for people who’re unfamiliar with the Violated Hero series.

I did a five part playthrough, which can be read here:

Hentai Game Review: Violated Hero 5

I was supposed to do a review/summary right after I finished my playthrough, but then various things came up.  Here it is as a general resource for people that don’t want to slog through the whole playthrough.

http://www.dlsite.com/ecchi-eng/work/=/product_id/RE137860.html

Violated Hero 5 is the fifth instalment in a series of monster girl hentai RPG games.  The first two used Dungeon Master-style (I suppose for the younger audience Etrian Odyssey-style) navigation through a pseudo-3D maze.  From VH3 onwards the exploration element has been reduced to a series of branching paths with events at each node.

Violated Hero is nominally an RPG in that the main character fights random monster encounters to level up stats enough to get past the various boss characters at the end of each location.  The mechanics are very straightforward.  There’s little complexity and the gameplay is mostly filler connecting one Bad End scene to the next.  Like most monster girl hentai games, Violated Hero is a Game-Over-Rape game.  If you lose to one of the boss characters you get to see her do naughty and frequently perverse things to the male protagonist.  As with previous entries, VH5 features ten minor bosses and five major bosses.  Each has two to three H-scenes, with some additional non-Bad-End scenes as well.  The H-scenes have always been one of Violated Hero’s strong points.  The artwork is usually gorgeous and each scene is fully voiced.

Violated Hero 5 came out very quickly after Violated Hero 4 and my concern, along with others, was that they’d rushed this.  Most of the monster girl designs looked a little too cartoony and loli-esque for my liking, especially the final designs of the fan contest winners.  Dieselmine, the makers, have an odd habit of improving some aspects of their series with each new iteration, but also getting something comically wrong elsewhere in the process.  For VH5 I think they managed to undermine one of their key strengths—the character designs.

So what’s different this time around?  Despite sometimes looking like an underage choirboy in some of the scenes, the main protagonist can handle himself in a fight.  This is more like VH3 than VH4.  The mechanic of recruiting a travelling harem and then ignoring them because the first companion’s magic attack is so much stronger than everyone else’s is gone.

Also new this time is additional Bad End scenes for the bonus mini bosses.  In earlier games these used to be conventional monsters that provided stats bonuses when defeated.  In VH4 they became sexy monster girls and in VH5 they now have small Bad End scenes.  These are voice-only scenes and vary in eroticism from not bad to ick!

Compared to previous instalments VH5 is a little lighter on the ick factor.  The scenes with the first five bosses have plenty of ick moments, but after that the game becomes more vanilla.  This will be a plus or a minus depending on how much you liked the bonkers craziness present in previous games.  Overall, the monster girl designs are also a little more vanilla this time around.  I would have liked to have seen a couple more imaginative types like the two-headed cyclops girl or sandworm girl from VH4.

For the first part of the game I did think the concerns about it being rushed out and that affecting the quality might be valid.  At that point I would have placed it as much weaker than previous entries.  The game got a lot better once I met the major bosses.  The scenes were much hotter and the story and characters are actually rather good.  Violated Hero is much better when the major characters have competing agendas and plans rather than the One Big Boss With Four Generals model used in VH2 and 4.

One major plus point was the character of Ariel, the crazy manic-pixie-dream-girl angel that accompanies you on your quest.  She’s cowardly, annoying, but also frequently funny.  A surprisingly well-written character in other words.

Overall, once you get the weak start out of the way, it’s another solid addition to the monster girl hentai game library from Dieselmine.

Hentai Game Review: Monsters 'n Girls

I can’t really do a full playthrough of this as it’s an arcade game with minimal plot.  Lewd demons have invaded a peaceful fantasy kingdom and it’s up to a brave knight to save the day.

http://www.dlsite.com/ecchi-eng/work/=/product_id/RE138022.html

You know those porn parody films with titles like This Is Not [Insert name of TV Show/Film] XXX.  Well Monsters ‘n Girls is basically this for the old arcade classic Ghouls ‘n Ghosts.  Anyone familiar with the original will spot the similarities in the intro, game play, level design and even in some of the monsters.

Monsters ‘n Girls is an action platformer where you fling lances at various monster girl enemies.  The hentai element is provided by pixel hentai animations.  Whenever you get knocked over, the nearest monster girl will climb on top and start fucking you.  This is similar to games like Eroico, Milia Wars and The Paradise Fortress of RePure Aria.  There are a wide range of monster girls, so you can expect to be glooped by slime girls, wrapped up in lamia coils and ridden by lusty succubi during the course of the game.

Thankfully it’s not as brutally hard as the game it’s parodying/homaging.  The normal mode is effectively infinite lives and the checkpoints are placed close enough that even platformer-incompetents like me can make it to the end.

The pixel scenes and artwork are fine, but—despite a good selection of monster girls—the sex scenes could do with a little more variety.  It’s weaker in that respect than either Eroico or Paradise Fortress, but at its price is a cheap and sexy distraction.  And those nostalgic for the old Ghouls ‘n Ghosts will enjoy it.

(For nostalgia I did try playing Ghouls ‘n Ghosts again on MAME.  That did not go well.  The game is still as brutally difficult as I remember).

Hentai Game Review - Demon Angel Sakura

Actually, I did a full playthrough of this over the past week, starting here.

They seem most gleeful about this eating you thing
In Demon Angel Sakura you play a dude with pigtails in a dress sent to hell to retrieve a stolen mirror.  The inhabitants of hell are giant monster girls that all want to molest and then eat you (yes, it's a vore game).  Demon Angel Sakura is nominally an action platformer, but that's basically an excuse to string together a bunch of sexy Bad End hentai scenes.  Having a Super Easy difficulty mode means even the most useless (i.e. me) should get to the end and see all the content.

As other people have pointed out, it's kind of short, but that's typical for this type of game.  Or at least used to be until the dedicated-beyond-all-common-business-sense とろとろレジスタンス spoilt us all with the exemplary Monster Girl Quest.  As a game there's not much to it.  It's better to think of it as a series of animated H scenes strung together.

The art style is very cartoony, but on the plus side everything is fully animated.  It's also already translated into English and doesn't require any fiddling with auto-translators to work out what's going on.

Content-wise there are five different monster girls with the last two having two different ending scenes.  With a bonus NG+ scene on top that gives 10 weird-n-wacky H scenes for your ten bucks.

Whether it's worth those 10 bucks will depend on what you're looking for.  As a game it's very slight.  It's not Eroico or the Paradise Fortress of RePure Aria, and if you're expecting more of a game you're going to feel hard done by.

If you like vore and in particular giantess scenes (and know what I'm talking about if I mention the word Felarya), you'll probably get the most out of this.  On the other hand, even if vore and giantess fetish doesn't float your boat, you can - like me - revel in the kind of warped imagination that came up with these scenes, drew them into a computer and animated them.

I wasn't joking when I said fucked up...

Hentai Game Review - DramaraQuest I

And now for a review of the other battle-fuck RPG-maker clone I played over the Xmas holidays (before I decided it would be a good/idiotic idea to blog a detailed walkthrough of Violated Hero 4).  Dramaraquest is another porn parody of a more famous JRPG – in this case Dragon Quest.  I know a little bit more about that franchise as I’ve played the 9th installment (and also ruthlessly porn-parodied it).

Dramaraquest takes various iconic monsters from the DQ franchise and boobifies them into sexy monster girls.  It’s another battle-fuck game, so combat is about getting stuck in with your willy and trying to make the girl come before you do.  The monster girl artwork is pretty good and like both ROBF and Tokyo Tenma (all the JRPG franchises are getting the full porn-parody treatment it seems) the game utilises simple CGI distortions (jiggedy jiggedy) to give the illusion of animation.

DQ monster, with added boobies...

Fellow strugglers with Japanese kanji will be glad to note it is nowhere near as complex as ROBF.  Levelling up is straightforward – your attack and defence improve, making you able to take on previously impossible-to-defeat monsters and enter new areas.  Combat is also straightforward.  You start as a hero sent on a quest to find a missing princess.  At the tomb of a former hero you find two spells – one takes monster girl’s clothes off, the other restores healthy/potency – and then set off to battle-fuck various boobified monsters into submission.

Monster girls appear on the map and in dungeons as black clouds (bosses are indicated with a crown).  After defeating them an icon appears over their head, so the player can avoid them if they don’t want to go through the same fight again.

Lost in the woods

There’s also a special area in the castle where the player can refight (read fuck) already defeated monster girls.

One harem. Management not responsible for loss of life through sexual exhaustion

Despite being another RPG-make clone requiring key items to be found to unlock areas, it’s mercifully simple.  The only area I really got stuck on was failing to spot one of the corridors in a locked area of the northwest town led off-screen to a dungeon.  Other than that the game is relatively straightforward.

Along with the various semi-naked monster girls there are a number of town NPCs to seduce/be seduced by.  Some of these supposedly correspond to characters in the DQ series.  A couple of these encounters even reference DQ’s legendary puff-puff attacks in a more . . . ahem . . . direct interpretation.

A more literal interpretation of DQ's classic "puff-puff" attack...

For a while I thought I was going to rate this even higher than ROBF.  The fight artwork is better and they make better use of the limited animation.  Unfortunately, as I went deeper into the game the lack of variety in the monster designs became more glaring.  Most of the monster girls have only two attacks and there is heavy use of palette swapping.  This might be fine if you like a particular girl but would rather her hair was blue, etc.  For me I like to push on into new areas to see what new monster girls are revealed.  Reaching the final castle and realising all the new enemies aside from the final boss are palette-swapped versions of girls already seen before is a little disappointing.

"Blue hair is so passé..."

Overall it’s not a bad game.  It’s not as frustrating to play as some RPG-maker clones, but it’s also a little short and lacking in variety compared to similar games.

Hentai Game Review - ROBF

Time to catch up on some reviews of games I played over the holiday period.  ROBF has been sitting on my hard drive for a while.  The title stands for Ragnarok Online Battle FuckRagnarok Online is a fantasy MMORG and I assume ROBF is a porn parody.  I say assume because I know absolutely fuck all about Ragnarok Online.

ROBF is another RPG-maker clone and – as it’s a battlefuck game – sex plays a heavy part in the combat rather than just being something that happens in the Bad End when you lose.  The objective is to get the monster girl to come before she does the same to you (as opposed to games like Violated Hero where you’re both fighting normally to knock the other out, or Monster Girl Quest where Luka is mostly trying to beat the horny monster girls off with his ludicrously impractical sword).

The sex battles are done well in ROBF.  The artwork is consistent and while it isn’t up to the high standards of games like Violated Hero they’ve added limited animations to represent the different attacks each monster girl uses.  It’s not particularly fancy, but it works well.  The Bad Ends vary according to which attack the girl defeats you with and are mostly repeats of the same animations from the battle drawn out for added sexiness.  It’s impressive how much even a limited bit of animation adds.  If you liked Erotical Night, but thought the monster girl designs were too bland, ROBF is a game you’ll want to check out.

I liked the Alraune girl (or Hydra as she’s referred to in the game).  Her boobs swell up and down when she’s pumping cum out of you with a tentacle.

Pumpity pumpity . . .

ROBF is also one of the most proper-ist RPG’s I’ve played.  Levelling up means more than just increases to strength, defence and hit points.  There are skill trees, new attacks to be learned, tons of different items, quests, even a collectible card system that provides different stats boosts when equipped.  It’s complex.

What shall we get from the random skill generator this level . . . ?

Unfortunately, when you don’t read Japanese and are relying on iffy machine translation, that complexity can be become a drawback.  There were a lot of times when I wanted to move onto the next area but couldn’t because I hadn’t found the right item or spoken to the right townsperson.  It feels harsh to criticise the game for my linguistic failings, especially as it was never intended to be played outside Japan, but it is a valid point.  If you like sexy monster girls, want more of a game with your smut and can read Japanese, you’re going to think ROBF is amazing.  If only the first two apply, then expect a lot of frustration and scanning of forum threads while you try to work out how the hell you’re supposed to enter that pyramid in the desert town (or even unlock the first sewer dungeon).

Trying to figure out how to get in some of these locations will drive you crazy.

Making the player jump through a few hoops to unlock new sexiness isn’t that bad of a thing.  While I liked the openness of games like Violated Quest and Violated Fantasy, it is easy to blast through all the content a little too quickly.  ROBF gives more value by rationing out the hawtness.  This can fall down, though, if the player enters a new area and finds none of the new monsters are their particular cup of tea.  For me the main evil castle was a little disappointing as the monster girls were mostly bland.  I was looking forward to see how the game represented a classic succubus and I didn’t find any.

Not a succubus, but she still wants to suck out your soul

Overall it has a good variety of different monster girl types.  There are also plenty of scenes with various NPC girls for fans of less monstery hentai.  There’s plenty of depth including extras such as being able to buy your own house and also catch certain monster girl types to fight for you (and hang out at your house to provide other . . . uh . . . services).  Definitely not for the fainthearted though.  Trying to battle through this with AGTH + Translation Aggregator was tough.

Hentai Game Review - Monmusu Delicious -Lunch-

The epic Monster Girl Quest has concluded, but if you’re suffering from withdrawal symptoms a spin-off came out over the holiday season.  It’s a follow-up to Monmusu Delicious -Breakfast- (which I talked about here), this time called Monmusu Delicious -Lunch-.  Presumably there will be a Monmusu Delicious -Dinner/Dessert- at some point using characters from MGQ’s third chapter (where Black Alice probably vores everything).

Monmusu Delicious -Lunch- isn’t strictly speaking a hentai game.  It’s a collection of alternate Bad End scenarios featuring monster girls from the second chapter of MGQ.  As the title suggests, the emphasis is on vore and most of the protagonists end up in someone’s belly.  Most of the time that’s MGQ’s protagonist, Luka, although other characters are used such as Sylph, Camel’s Cecilia, the loli Vampire Girl, and ever odder choices such as the Slug Girl and Dullahan.  Pretty much every monster girl that had a vore Bad End in MGQ’s second chapter gets a scenario.  There are also vore scenarios for some of the non-vore monster girls such as Beelzebub and Lilith & Lilim.  Erubetie gets another opportunity to use her rather dubious de-aging power before slurping up a hapless Minotauress.  I expect it won’t be long before the paedoslime memes hit 4chan.

I'm not sure "It's okay, I'm eating them," is a valid defence, Erubetie.
This is vore, so if you thought that aspect of MGQ was icky and played the game with the vore endings switched off, this isn’t going to be your cup of tea.  If you like vore and enjoyed Delicious Monmusu -Breakfast-, Delicious Monmusu -Lunch- is more of the same.  It's currently in Japanese, but if you're patient and keep an eye on Dargoth's site, there might be an English translation at some point in the future.

Starfish Girl table manners leave a lot to be desired...
Last time round I pointed out they’d missed off the Sea Anemone Girl and wrote a little sex/vore tale to make up for it (a creature not unlike the Jellyfish girl also found its way into A Succubus for Freedom as well).  It was fun and I liked how the story turned out so I might do it again (and writing a simple ‘dude stumbles on monster girl – suck, fuck, slurp!’ story will be a good breather after the complex storylines of A Succubus for Remembrance).

Now which monster girl to have fun with.  Monmusu Delicious -Lunch- didn’t leave out any glaring omissions.  By my reckoning Alra Vore and two of the Canaan Sisters (the Venus Flytraps) didn’t get a scenario, but that section of the game is nicknamed the Forest of Nope! by fans for a reason.  The only other one, I think, was the Dragon Girl, but I always thought she was a little too much licky-licky and not enough fucky-fucky.

Anyway, at the moment I think I’ll be wandering into the Forest of Nope! to see what sexy plant girls are around.  This isn’t set in stone yet, so if there was a girl from MGQ2 you were disappointed didn’t show up in Monmusu Delicious -Lunch- let me know in the comments.  It's the holiday season so I might pick them instead.

Hentai Game Review - Tokyo Tenma

Your blog hits have fallen through the floor.  Quick, give them a review of a mucky game.

Okay okay.  First off, the final part of Monster Girl Quest Chapter 3 has been translated to English.  You can find it here on RogueTranslator’s blog (and the actual game can be bought from here).  If you stumbled here by accident and are new to all this I highly recommend checking out Monster Girl Quest as it’s (still) the high benchmark for this type of game.

http://www.dlsite.com/ecchi-eng/work/=/product_id/RE119143.html

And so onto Tokyo Tenma.  I missed this first time around.  I like my monster girls to be bad and in control of the H-scenes and this looked more like a game where the hero shows the girls what for and builds up a harem through repeated use of his big “weapon” (Personally I have no ideological problems with that type of game – they just don’t stimulate my kinks).  Tokyo Tenma is a game where the hero does build up a willing harem of monster girls, but despite not featuring any Game-Over-Rape, the H-scenes are probably closer in tone to games like Monster Girl Quest and Violated Hero.

Fortunately, grabbing it later, after it was recommended on forums of Monster Girl Unlimited, meant I managed to miss all the game-breaking bugs that afflicted the game on release.  Most of that has been ironed out and it’s a pretty good game.

You'd be right to be concerned by those tails...

Plot- and mechanics-wise it’s very similar to the mainstream Shin Megami Tensei series.  A strange blackout hits Tokyo and both demons and angels show up for a ruckus.  You play a dude that posts the highest score in a mysterious game and gets a guardian angel or demon for a bodyguard as a prize (Either a Crow Tengu or Fenrir demon depending on how the player answers five initial questions).  The player can recruit other monster girls to their fighting team.  This is done through answering questions correctly, having the right inventory items to gift to them, or the right monster girl present in your fighting squad when attempting to recruit them.

There is no Game-Over-Rape (it’s not a sex battle game – let the girls beat you up and you get a simple “Game Over” screen to reward your uselessness).  The hentai elements are provided during the contract scenes when you recruit fresh monster girls to your team.  Meet the right conditions and you’re rewarded with two different H-scenes for each girl.  These can be skipped and viewed later (or re-viewed) at “Slave Rose” points on the map.  Oddly, given the method of recruitment and the “Slave Rose” facilities where recruits are “trained”, the H-scenes often have the monster girl in the dominant role (at least the ones I chose to view did).

Now who's the slave here again?
It’s also another hentai game with noble aspirations to be an actual game.  Each of the monster girls unlocks different skills as they level up.  As with most RPGs you’ll want to put together a balanced team (The sprite is quite useful for her healing magic).  At one point I thought the game might be a little too easy as it didn’t seem to matter how under-levelled the other girls on my team were.  Then in the later dungeons I ran into monsters with attacks (confusion, stun, sleep) that took my main (and highest-levelled) character out of combat.  Those fights didn’t go so well . . .

The artwork is fine.  One thing I liked is that the battle sprites aren’t completely static.  The animations are simple sprite transformations, but are very effective at giving the monster girl enemies a little extra – ahem! - jiggle and bounce.  Some girls will hit the spot, some won’t, and it will vary from person to person depending on their kinks.  There’s a good variety to choose from, so there should be something for everyone (although I was a little disappointed the pink slime girl in the tutorial fight doesn’t get a scene).

Sorry slime girl fans, she ain't available.
The game is a hybrid of top-down 2D RPG-maker type wandering about and pseudo-3D Dungeon Master-esque dungeon crawling.  As with most games like this you’ll have to struggle through some garbled machine translations to work out which quests unlock certain areas.  If you get stuck there is a helpful guide thread on the ULMF forums.

Overall the game isn’t up to the same standard as Monster Girl Quest and the artwork doesn’t match the lushness of the Violated Hero series, but if you’ve exhausted those games and want something new it might be worth a look.

And speaking of something new, I hope no one minds if I sneak in a plug for my brand new book, a tasty new collection featuring lots of delectably depraved succubus action.  If you like this type of game, you’ll also enjoy my books.

Hentai Game Review - Violated Fantasy (Okasare Fantasy)

I mentioned Violated Fantasy (Okasare Fantasy) back here in a little hentai game roundup.  It’s the follow-up to Violated Quest.  I finally got around to picking it up last weekend and was pleasantly surprised.

Like its predecessor, Violated Fantasy is one of those RPGMaker clones.  Also like its predecessor it does away with the whole tedious grindy random encounter stuff.  Unlike its predecessor it has more of a plot as well as winnable battles and levelling.

The plot has you kidnapped by the demon queen ruler of a fantasy world.  She wants to do the naughty with you but is worried her succubus powers will blast your brain out of your ears and bring the sex to a quick and messy end.  To toughen you up she sends you out into a world full of over-amorous monster girls in order to build up your sexual resistance.  To prevent the over-amorous monster girls from fucking you to death/slavery/etc., she equips you with a magical collar that yanks you out of the fight the moment you lose.

I don't think she's taking 'No' as an answer.
The collar is a nice touch.  I know some people like the sexy fights in games like Monster Girl Quest, but get turned off by the Bad Ends where Luka gets digested, sucked dry, etc.  This game might be more to their liking.  To people that like the Bad Ends, don’t worry, there’s a point near the end where the collar is removed and you’re free to send your protagonist off to any doomed end you desire.

I liked how they handled the fights.  Normally in these games, if you want to see the good stuff you have to throw the fight and lose.  Violated Fantasy is a little different.  Each monster girl has multiple attacks (each with their own CG).  You unlock them by knocking off more of their health/energy bar in the fight.  Want to see more – win the fight.  It’s a simple but effective little tweak from a game design perspective as it rewards the player for trying to win while still allowing the monster girl to be sexually dominant.  I wouldn’t be surprised if other games copy this – it allows the game to flow more naturally than: lose, watch Bad End, game over, reload.

Again they’ve been generous with the enemies with 52 encounters (although 7 of those are with the demon queen at different stages).  The artwork is variable, but mostly fine.  I liked the work of the artist who did the goblin, boar girl, nymph, etc....

Nymph - Yes
...while the crazed cartoon lolis didn’t really do anything for me.

Frog Girl-Thing - Um...no.
That’s standard for this type of game.  They’re aiming to hit a wide variety of kinks, some of which are a little weird.  I don’t think I’ve seen a Sea Urchin girl used before.

Sea Urchin Girl - Ouchies!
Her scene looks a little...uncomfortable.

The one big flaw with the game is the levelling up math.  It went a little haywire for me.  For a game with no random grinding (although you can fight the same monster girl multiple times for extra experience) I’d have expected it to be about fighting the girls in the right order with the difficulty spiking if you happen to miss one.  What actually happened was I found my fighting (technically resisting) ability vastly outstripping the power of the enemies.  By the third area I’d hit some kind of quasi-god status.  By the fourth area it was a struggle not to kill most enemies with one or two hits of the most basic attack (and miss some of their attack CGs in the process).  This meant that all the extra skills and items they’d added to the game seemed superfluous.  I never figured out what most of them did and didn’t need to.

Also, as with the first game, if you’re using AGTH you’ll want to add the H-code /HBN*0@470D5A to unscramble the text before translation.  (Oh, and as I sometimes neglect to mention this part – the game is in Japanese.  You’ll need to set your locale to Japanese and use a text hooker + machine translator to convert to – sometimes garbled! – English.  Back here I posted some links to helpful guides on how to set this up.)

Overall, it’s not as detailed as Monster Girl Quest, or as pretty as Violated Hero, but if you’ve exhausted the scenes in those and want to try something new, this is worth a look, if you’re willing to overlook the slightly shonky JRPG math.

And finally the obligatory plug.  If you like games like this, you’ll also like my books.
